INTRODUCTION: Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) of the uterine cervix is a rare and extremely malignant entity. Generally, embryonal RMS originating in the uterine cervix is usually diagnosed in adolescence. Before the introduction of effective adjuvant chemotherapy, the prognosis of these lesions was poor. We have treated a young woman suffering from this disease using a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy (RT) with excellent results. The medical community should keep in mind that embryonal RMS of the uterine cervix, despite its malignancy and rarity, can be cured if ade

Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, botryoid variant, is a malignant tumor that usually arises in the urinary bladder and other mucosal sites. This is a case of a 4-year-old girl presenting with a mass initially thought to arise within the urinary bladder. Macroscopic and microscopic examination proved that this botryoid rhabdomyosarcoma had its origin within the left ureter.

We describe a case of fetal rhabdomyosarcoma detected during the third trimester of pregnancy by prenatal sonography. At 33 weeks' gestation, sonography performed because of suspected polyhydramnios showed a solid mass of 120 x 54 mm arising from the anterior wall of the fetal thoracic cage. Another mass within the left maxillary area which originated from the left orbital floor was also detected. In the abdomen, there were multiple round masses in and around the liver. As the previous scan at 28 weeks had appeared normal, the multiple masses which became visible and enlarged rapidly in differ

This case report concerns an embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the testis in a 31-yr-old white male patient who underwent radical left orchiectomy, followed by combined irradiation and chemotherapy, and who 2 yr later presented with dyspnea at rest, nonproductive cough, and lower back pain for 1 wk. Chest radiographs demonstrated a bilateral pleural effusion and diffuse infiltrating lesion of the pleurae, mimicking a mesothelioma. The pleural fluid displayed noncohesive, malignant, small, round cells about 2-5 times larger than mature lymphocytes. They had large, darkly stained, pleomorphic nuclei

BACKGROUND: Uterine sarcoma is a rare mesenchymal malignancy, and its preoperative diagnosis presents significant challenges, often resulting in the so-called occult sarcoma following surgery, based on the pathological diagnosis. Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the female genital tract most commonly presents in pediatric patients and occurs in the uterine cervix. A pure uterine embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma presenting in an older adult patient is exceedingly rare. Due to its overall poor prognosis, early recognition of this unusual entity is crucial for patient care.

(1) Background: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in the first two decades of life. One third of cases appear in the head and neck, with 60% of these being embryonal type. RMS is extremely rare in adults, comprising only 1% of adult malignancies, and of those, only 3.3% are rhabdomyosarcomas. (2) Case report: A 46 y.o. male presented with a 1 cm exophytic pediculated painless lesion on the dorsum of his tongue, with progressive growth for 3 months. An excisional biopsy revealed an "embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma with fusocellular areas, with negative rearrangement for g

The embryonal subtype of rhabdomyosarcoma is the most frequent, commonly seen in children. However, it is uncommon to discover this subtype in adults, especially in the larynx. We presented a rare case of a 63 years old man who presented with worsening hoarseness, dysphagia for solids, and dyspnea and was later diagnosed with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the larynx.

Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children. We report a rare case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the soft palate in a 32-year-old Caucasian female. Detailed histology of the tumor is described. Positive staining with desmin, myogenin and myoD1 confirmed the tumor to be embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. A genetic association between rhabdomyosarcoma, polycystic ovary syndrome and the FEM1A gene on the human chromosome is speculated upon.

BACKGROUND: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most prevalent soft tissue sarcoma in children, with approximately 30% of head and neck RMS occurring in the orbit. The management of orbital RMS is complex, requiring a multidisciplinary approach and careful surgical planning. The objective of the present paper is to provide the neurosurgeon with an update on this challenging tumor.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 12-year-old boy was admitted to our department after the onset of diplopia in his right eye, associated with quickly worsening ipsilateral eyelid edema and mild proptosis. MRI revealed an anterior supe

We describe an infant with a congenital polypoid anal mass, diagnosed as botryoid-type embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. Histological examination revealed myxoma-like appearance and cells with greater differentiation with elongated streaming eosinophilic cytoplasm and one or two nuclei, suggestive of rhabdomyoblasts. Tumour cells were strongly immunoreactive for desmin and 10% of cells displayed immunoreactivity for myoglobin. We present this case with a view to highlighting the benign clinical and histological appearance of botryoid-type embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. Early biopsy is essential for imp

Presented here is a 16-year-old nulliparous girl who had embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma causing uterine inversion. She had been referred with a one year history of continuous vaginal bleeding and vaginal swelling. Histology had shown sarcoma botyroides and had received five courses of chemotherapy at the referring hospital. At surgery she was found to have uterine inversion and extended hysterectomy was carried out to be followed by radiotherapy.

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a neoplasm of childhood which commonly arises in the genitourinary tract. Reported locations include the bladder, prostate, paratestis, vagina, uterus, cervix, and ovary. Rhabdomyosarcomas have been reported to occur in the fallopian tube only as a component of a malignant mixed müllerian tumor. We present a case of pure embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the fallopian tube in a 17-year-old. The diagnosis was confirmed by immunohistochemical stains. The strongest evidence for the primary location of this pure embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma was the gross appearance of the tumor at la

Rhabdomyosarcomas (RBMs) are rare neoplasms arising from striated muscle tissues in domestic animals and are exceptionally uncommon, affecting the heart of domestic cats. A case of cardiac embryonal RBM was detected in a two-year-old female domestic shorthair cat. The cat exhibited dyspnea, anorexia, pericardial and pleural effusions, ultimately succumbing to severe respiratory arrest. Gross post-mortem examination revealed a firm yellow-tan mass measuring 2.5 × 1.5 cm protruding from the right atrium, along with metastatic nodules of various sizes dispersed throughout the liver, spleen, and l

UNLABELLED: Rhabdomyosarcoma is an uncommon soft tissue sarcoma that rarely presents in adults. Clinical presentation is dependent on site and size. We present the case of a woman who presented with acute-onset dyspnoea and whose pathology report confirmed embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) seen as an incidental finding on chest computed tomography. We also describe the clinical, laboratory and radiological work-up conducted to diagnose and manage ERMS in the critical care setting.
LEARNING POINTS: Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare malignancy with a poor prognosis in adults compared with children, es

INTRODUCTION: Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most frequently occurring intrusive soft tissue sarcoma in the pediatric age group. Orbit is the most common location for a pediatric rhabdomyosarcoma, but it can occur in the oral cavity, pharynx, face and neck in the descending order of incidence. Rhabdomyosarcoma in the ear is extremely rare.
CASE REPORT: A 5-year-old girl presented to the outpatient department of our tertiary care hospital with complaints of foul smelling, non-blood stained right ear discharge of one-month duration and deviation of angle of mouth to the left side of acute onset. Inves

Aim Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common malignant soft tissue tumour of childhood. We present the case of a late relapse of RMS to the leptomeninges after 15 years. Methods A 20 year old male presented with a 3 week history of headaches and nausea. He previously had RMS of his right ear diagnosed at age 5 years which was treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy. An MRI Brain and Spine confirmed extensive leptomeningeal disease and CSF analysis confirmed the presence of recurrent embryonal RMS. Results He completed two cycles of cyclophosphamide and topotecan followed by 45Gy/25Fr of cra
