Clear cell sarcoma of the jejunum: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Clear cell sarcoma (CCS), also known as malignant melanoma of soft parts, is a rare type of soft tissue sarcoma which exhibits morphological, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural similarity with malignant melanoma. It is rarely localized in the intestine and the natural history of this tumor is not yet clear. CASE REPORT: A 49-year-old woman presented with diffuse abdominal colicky pain and vomitus over the previous seven days. An X-ray of the abdomen revealed obstruction of the small intestine. The patient underwent contrast enhanced abdominal computerized tomography (CT), whi

PRAME as a Diagnostic Adjunct in Clear Cell Sarcoma.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is a rare soft tissue neoplasm characterized by melanocytic differentiation and recurrent EWSR1 rearrangements. Owing to its overlapping morphology and immunophenotype with malignant melanoma (MM), distinction between these entities can be challenging, particularly in small biopsies or metastatic settings. Preferentially Expressed Antigen in Melanoma (PRAME) has emerged as a valuable marker in melanocytic pathology; however, its utility in CCS remains to be fully elucidated. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 26 CCS cases from 2 sarcoma referral centers, assessin

Clear Cell Sarcoma-Like Tumor of the Gastrointestinal Tract.

Clear cell sarcoma-like tumor of the gastrointestinal tract (CCSLGT) is a rare and relatively recently described entity. Here, we report a CCSLGT arising in the ileum of 28-year-old man. Histologically, the tumor composed of uniform, epithelioid or spindle cells that have eosinophilic cytoplasm and round, vesicular nucleus with single prominent nucleolus arranged in nests. No melanin pigment is identified. Lymph nodes and liver revealed metastasis. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells labeled with S100, SOX10, while negative for Cam 5.2, HMB-45, A103, CD117, DOG-1, SMA, desmin, chromogranin and

Compound clear cell sarcoma misdiagnosed as a Spitz nevus.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) typically presents as a tumor in the deep soft tissue of extremities, but when centered in the dermis it may be confused with a melanocytic nevus, primary nodular or metastatic melanoma. Compound variants of CCS, i.e. tumor cells present in both the epidermis and underlying soft tissue have not yet been described. Herein we report such a case, which initially presented as a nodule on the left wrist of a young woman at 19 years of age. The lesion was then interpreted as 'Spitz nevus, compound type'. Twelve years later the patient noticed an enlarged lymph node in the ri

Clear cell sarcoma of the upper thoracic back muscle.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS), also called malignant melanoma of soft parts, is a rare malignant soft tissue tumor and is often associated with tendons or aponeuroses. Most of CCS involve extremities, especially lower extremities, but a tumor occurring in the trunk is rare. We report an extremely rare case of CCS originated in the upper thoracic back muscle. To our knowledge, this case is the second report of CCS of the back muscle.

[A clinicopathological study of clear cell sarcoma of the kidney].

OBJECTIVE: To study the clinicopathological, immunohistochemical features and the histogenesis of clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK). METHODS: CCSK specimens from 45 pediatric cases, including 31 male and 14 female with an age range from 3 months to 12 years (mean of 3.2 years), were retrieved. Routine pathological, immunohistochemical and electron microscopic methods were utilized to analyze the CCSK specimens. RESULTS: 35 of the 45 cases were followed from 6 to 192 months. 15 patients presented with bone metastases, 6 had lung or liver metastases, 8 recurred and 20 died. Age and clini

Simultaneous Clear Cell Sarcomas of the Duodenum and Jejunum.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is an uncommon tumor that usually presents as an extremity mass but can rarely manifest as a gastrointestinal tumor with a diverse spectrum of symptoms, most commonly related to a mass effect or ulceration. Herein we report a case in which two separate tumors, one in the duodenum and the other in the jejunum, present concurrently. The subject presented with symptomatic anemia and underwent imaging and endoscopic studies that culminated in the discovery of the two lesions. He subsequently underwent operative treatment with resection of both tumors and made an unremarkab

A patient with rhabdomyosarcoma and clear cell sarcoma of the skin.

We describe a patient with rhabdomyosarcoma of the posterior cervical region and clear cell sarcoma on the occipital scalp. These two tumors later metastasized to distant skin. We differentiated these tumors by histopathologic, histochemical, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural findings. Cells of the posterior cervical tumor showed differentiation toward striated muscle, whereas those of the occipital tumor showed findings compatible with melanocytic differentiation.

Gastrointestinal clear cell sarcoma-like tumour of the ascending colon.

INTRODUCTION: A clear cell sarcoma-like gastrointestinal tumour (CCSLGT) is a rare malignant soft tissue sarcoma. In the literature, they are sometimes referred to as malignant gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumours, clear cell sarcomas or osteoclast rich tumours of the gastrointestinal tract. CASE HISTORY: We present a case of a CCSLGT arising from the ascending colon of a previously well 22-year-old man presenting with abdominal pain and anaemia. Computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis showed a 7 cm irregular mass in the right flank that seemed to emerge from the proximal transverse

Clear cell sarcoma: a case mimicking primary cutaneous malignant melanoma.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is a recently described variant of sarcoma characterized by prominent clear cells showing features similar to clear cell melanoma. This neoplasm was first described by Dr. Franz M. Erzinger. Primary CCS usually arises in deeper soft tissues, in association with fascia, tendons, or aponeuroses. Characteristic translocation t(12;22) (q13;q12) has been considered pathognomonic for CCS. Prognosis is related to tumor size. An early recognition and initial radical surgery is the key to a favourable outcome. We present a patient with an unusual neoplasm that resembled maligna

Clear-Cell Sarcoma With an Unusual Presentation Mimicking Metastatic Melanoma.

Clear-cell sarcoma (CCS) was first described in 1968. It partly overlaps morphologically, immunohistochemically, and ultrastructurally with malignant melanoma (MM), hence its name "soft tissue melanoma." Nevertheless, there are sufficient cytogenetic differences between cutaneous melanoma and clear-cell sarcoma to consider clear-cell sarcoma as a separate entity. Clear-cell sarcoma of soft tissue is different from clear-cell sarcoma of the kidney. It is classified as a tumor of uncertain differentiation in the WHO 2020 classification of soft tissue tumors. It is an aggressive, rare malignant t

Primary Clear Cell Sarcoma of the Lung: a Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Clear Cell Sarcoma of Soft Tissue (CCSST), or melanoma of the soft part, is a rare, aggressive tumor that originates in the aponeurosis and fasciae of the distal parts of the extremities. Reports from other sites of the body are rare. OBJECTIVE: We are reporting an extremely rare tumor that presented as a central left-sided lung mass and found to be clear cell sarcoma of soft tissue. METHODS: We report a 24-year-old male patient presented with recurrent attacks of left-sided chest pain associated with cough and dyspnea. RESULTS: Imaging showed a central left-sided 8*5.5*5 cm lun

Exfoliative cytology of clear-cell sarcoma metastases in pleural fluid.

Two cases of clear-cell sarcoma arising from the leg with widespread metastasis were reported. Exfoliated tumor cells in pleural effusions were round, oval, and slightly pleomorphic. They were seen singly or in clusters of variable size with marked cellular cohesiveness and molding. Their cytoplasm was well-defined, clear, or finely granular, and contained S-100 protein and periodic acid-Schiff positive material that was digestible by diastase. Tumor-cell nuclei were round and hyperchromatic with irregular chromatin clumping, and showed conspicuous nucleoli.

Significance of Regional Lymph Node Dissection in Patients With Clear Cell Sarcoma and Epithelioid Sarcoma.

OBJECTIVE: Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) and epithelioid sarcoma (ES) are typical examples of soft tissue sarcoma subtypes that cause lymph node metastasis (LNM). However, the role of primary regional lymph node dissection remains unclear, especially when radiological evidence of LNM is absent preoperatively. We retrospectively investigated the significance of regional lymph node dissection in patients with CCS and ES. METHODS: Forty-one patients (CCS, n = 13; ES, n = 28) with no distant metastasis and with or without radiologically obvious regional LNM were enrolled in this study. Among these pat

An unusual association of malignant gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumor (clear cell sarcoma-like) and Ewing sarcoma.

Very recently a new designation of "Malignant Neuroectodermal Gastrointestinal Tumor" has been proposed for an aggressive form of neuroectodermal tumor with features similar to that of Clear Cell Sarcoma of Soft Tissue, however without a melanocytic differentiation. Also known as "clear cell sarcoma-like tumors of the gastrointestinal tract", these tumors show some features strongly suggesting an origin from a gastrointestinal neuroectodermal precursor cell unable to differentiate along the melanocytic lineage. They occur mainly in young and middle-aged adults, and have a poor prognosis with a

Clear Cell Sarcoma of the Tongue on MRI and PET/CT.

F-FDG PET/CT and MRI were performed in a 44-year-old woman to characterize a mass of the anterior tongue. MR images showed a voluminous mass, well circumscribed and enhanced heterogeneously after gadolinium chelates injection. There was an intense uptake on PET/CT. Pathological examination and molecular analysis revealed the diagnosis of clear cell sarcoma of the tongue. We present a case of clear cell sarcoma of the tongue, which includes imaging features. It is an extremely rare tumor, with only 3 cases previously reported in the literature.
