Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs), initially observed in the pleura, were later found to develop in almost any extrapleural site. Dedifferentiation within SFTs, a rare phenomenon, was characterized only recently, although it was previously described in soft tissue and bone tumors. A 61-year-old non-smoking Turkish woman presented with chest pain for 10 months. Computed tomography of the chest revealed a solitary, relatively well circumscribed, heterogeneous mass of 4 x 6 cm diameter in left posterior-lateral hemithorax. On thoracotomy, an extraparanchymal mass destructing the ribs was determined. Mass excision and partial chest wall resection were performed. On histopathologic examination, this mass showed features of the hyaline vascular type of Castleman's disease.

This case report presents an intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst exhibiting a unique shape. The patient was a 19-year-old man who had been diagnosed with a posterior mediastinal tumor by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, 2 years previously. The imaging revealed that the tumor was located on the left side of the posterior mediastinum and was 45 × 25 mm in size. As the size and shape of the tumor did not change in the 2 years after its detection, surgical extraction was planned. Intrathoracic needles are rarely used in clinical practice. They can migrate within the body, injure large blood vessels and other organs, and cause severe complications. We report an interesting case of intrathoracic needle removal using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. The needle was inserted under the left clavicle, penetrated the mediastinum, and migrated into the right thoracic cavity. Although pneumothorax developed during the disease course, no severe complications were observed. Rupture of an aneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta into the right pleural cavity is an uncommon event and its prognosis is rapidly fatal. Its diagnosis is difficult and it may remain unrecognized. We report the case of a 66-year-old patient with a haemorrhagic shock associated with a spontaneous right haemothorax. A ruptured aneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta was diagnosed during the surgical procedure.

Solitary paravertebral schwannomas in the thoracic spine and lacking an intraspinal component are uncommon.
