[Optical coherence tomography and ARMD].

Optical coherent tomography examination (OCT) is a new medical diagnostic imaging modality analogous to ultrasound B-mode imaging, able to perform anteroposterior cross-sectional imaging of interior tissues and is useful in clinical practice in ARMD. The combination of fluorescein and ICG angiography imaging with OCT imaging will bring additional information for all clinical forms of ARMD. Many patterns and images are easy to identify, including serous retinal detachment, diffuse or cystoid retinal edema, serous or fibrovascular retinal pigment epithelium detachment with or without retinal pig

Retinal applications of swept source optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

The advent of optical coherence tomography (OCT) revolutionized both clinical assessment and research of vitreoretinal conditions. Since then, extraordinary advances have been made in this imaging technology, including the relatively recent development of swept-source OCT (SS-OCT). SS-OCT enables a fast scan rate and utilizes a tunable swept laser, thus enabling the incorporation of longer wavelengths than conventional spectral-domain devices. These features enable imaging of larger areas with reduced motion artifact, and a better visualization of the choroidal vasculature, respectively. Build

[Advances in optical coherence tomography].

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has been able to establish itself in recent years not only in academic-scientific, but also in everyday dermatological practice. Its focus lies on epithelial tumors of the skin, which can be diagnosed intuitively and within a few seconds. Thus, basal cell carcinomas, actinic keratoses, and different stages of field cancerization can be diagnosed and monitored for response to therapy or possible recurrence. This often helps to avoid invasive sample extraction. Recently, the field of OCT and its latest advancement, dynamic OCT (D-OCT), has been expanded to incl

Near-infrared diffuse optical tomography.

Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) is emerging as a viable new biomedical imaging modality. Using near-infrared (NIR) light, this technique probes absorption as well as scattering properties of biological tissues. First commercial instruments are now available that allow users to obtain cross-sectional and volumetric views of various body parts. Currently, the main applications are brain, breast, limb, joint, and fluorescence/bioluminescence imaging. Although the spatial resolution is limited when compared with other imaging modalities, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or X-ray computeri

Anterior segment tomography with the cirrus optical coherence tomography.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an optical acquisition method to examine biological tissues. In recent years, OCT has become an important imaging technology used in diagnosing and following macular pathologies. Further development enabled application of optical coherence tomography in evaluation of the integrity of the nerve fiber layer, optic nerve cupping, anterior chamber angle, or corneal topography. In this manuscript we overview the use of OCT in the clinical practice to enable corneal, iris, ciliary body, and angle evaluation and diagnostics.

[Research progress of optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography in noninfectious uveitis: a review].

Non-infectious uveitis (NIU) is a challenging type of intraocular inflammatory disease that tends to recur and can be resistant to treatment. It can cause both transient and permanent pathological changes in the retina and choroid. Accurate diagnosis and monitoring of these changes rely heavily on ophthalmic imaging methods. In recent years, the enhanced depth imaging spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT), swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT), and swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) have emerged as rapidly evolving ophthalmic imaging t

Optical Coherence Tomography and Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography: Essential Tools for Detecting Glaucoma and Disease Progression.

Early diagnosis and detection of disease progression are critical to successful therapeutic intervention in glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique that allows objective quantification in vivo of key glaucomatous structural changes in the retina and the optic nerve head (ONH). Advances in OCT technology have increased the scan speed and enhanced image quality, contributing to early glaucoma diagnosis and monitoring, as well as the visualization of critically important structures deep within the ONH,

Optical biopsy in human pancreatobiliary tissue using optical coherence tomography.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a new technique for performing high-resolution, cross-sectional tomographic imaging in human tissue. OCT is analogous to ultrasound B mode imaging except that it uses light rather than acoustical waves. As a result, OCT has over 10 times the resolution of currently available clinical high-resolution cross-sectional imaging technologies. In this work, we investigate the capability of OCT to differentiate the architectural morphology of pancreatobiliary tissues. Normal pancreatobiliary tissues, including the gallbladder, common bile duct, pancreatic duct, an

Choroidal neovascularization fusion visualization for spectral-domain optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography images.

PURPOSE: The spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) images and OCT angiography (OCTA) images can provide complementary information for choroidal neovascularization (CNV) visualization. We expected to simultaneously display multifaceted characteristics of CNV in a single projection image. METHODS: We proposed a fusion method for CNV visualization by combining structural and angiographic images, which mainly involves four steps: (a) Generate SD-OCT and OCTA projection images from original volumetric data with retinal layer restriction. (b) For SD-OCT projection images, enhance re

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography and Ultra-Widefield Optical Coherence Tomography in a Child With Incontinentia Pigmenti.

Incontinentia pigmenti (IP) is a rare X-linked dominant disorder that can cause retinal nonperfusion, neovascularization, and retinal detachment. Evaluation of the peripheral retinal vasculature and appropriate treatment can reduce the risk of blindness. The authors report the use of a handheld prototype optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and ultra-widefield OCT (UWF-OCT) during exam under anesthesia of a 2-year-old with a history of severe early onset IP. UWF-OCT and OCTA may be used as noninvasive imaging modalities for IP and similar retinal vascular disorders in supine young c

IMPORTANCE: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a leading cause of childhood blindness worldwide. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has improved the care of adults with vitreoretinal disease, and OCT angiography (OCTA) is demonstrating promise as a technique to visualize the retinal vasculature with lower risk and cost than fluorescein angiography. However, to date, there are no commercially available devices able to obtain ultra-wide-field OCT or OCTA images in neonates. OBJECTIVE: To obtain ultra-wide-field OCT and OCTA images in neonates with ROP using a prototype handheld OCT and OCTA de

Optical coherence tomography angiography in glaucoma.

The use of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) holds significant promise for optometrists in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. It offers reliable differentiation of glaucomatous eyes from healthy ones and extends monitoring capabilities for advanced cases. OCTA represents a valuable addition to traditional assessment methods, particularly in complex cases. Glaucoma, a major cause of irreversible blindness, is traditionally diagnosed using structural and functional metrics. With growing interest, OCTA is being explored to diagnose, monitor, and manage glaucoma. This review f

Optical coherence tomography in neurodegenerative disorders.

Structural imaging of the brain is the most widely used diagnostic tool for investigating neurodegenerative diseases. More advanced structural imaging techniques have been applied to early or prodromic phases, but they are expensive and not widely available. Therefore, it is highly desirable to search for noninvasive, easily accessible, low-cost clinical biomarkers suitable for large-scale population screening, in order to focus on making diagnoses at the earliest stages of the disease. In this scenario, imaging studies focusing on the structures of the retina have increasingly been used for e
