In a series of 28 calcaneal fractures, computed tomography scanning has shown axial deformities in the coronal and horizontal (plantar) planes not previously recognized. Two-thirds of the fractures investigated showed a deformity in at least two planes. A combination of dorsiflexion, valgus and adduction was present in one-third of the cases. This examination allowed a precise measure to be made of the enlargement of the calcaneus which very frequently occurs and was greater than 25 per cent in two-thirds of the cases. We report one case of mesenteric panniculitis. This rare and poorly-known disease is characterized by a non specific inflammatory process involving adipose tissue of the mesentery. The new imaging techniques (CT and MRI) may be helpful for the diagnosis of this disease and allow avoiding laparotomy. However histological proof remains necessary and can be given by guided needle biopsy.

After a brief review of the circumstances in which CT scan of the adrenal glands may be carried out, the following are discussed: the role of CT scan in the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma, in functional pathology of the cortex (hyperplasia or tumor) and the problem of incidentalomas. Two cases of central pontine myelinolysis were studied by computerized tomography (CT). One patient had chronic alcoholism, the other porphyria variegata; both initially presented with water-and-electrolyte disorders, notably hyponatraemia. The neurological disorders consisted of acute pseudobulbar syndrome which totally regressed within 15 days to 1 month. The authors describe the CT findings in 57 patients suffering from various non-neoplastic disease of the larynx: chronic laryngitis, pseudotumor, paralysis, post-traumatic lesions, laryngocele, cyst. CT is usefull in evaluating site and extension of the disease, as well as its relations with the surrounding tissues. The densitometric evaluation and the functional tests are important in differential diagnosis with malignant neoplasms.

OBJECTIVE: We conducted this study to define and measure the dorsal radial tilt, and to guide the reduction of distal radius fractures and the pre-bending of steel plates used in surgery.

A case of extrapleural haematoma consecutive to a chest injury is reported. This is a rare site of blood effusion since such injuries usually result in haemothorax. These two diagnosis can be distinguished not only by exploratory thoracotomy but also by computerized tomography which shows a characteristic subpleural fat-like ribbon.

The authors report the case of a patient suffering from a head trauma after dizziness followed by a loss of consciousness. In the hours following the admission, he developed drowsiness and a left hemiparesis. CT scanner showed an intracerebral haematoma. Due to the dizziness a carotid angiography has been realized and has demonstrated an intracerebral avascular mass, an arteriovenous shunt and an epidural haematoma at the vertex. Two aspects of the case seem to be important: the first one is the limit of CT scanner; the second one is the relationship between the three lesions.

After analysis of the results of 142 CT brains scans performed from 1976 to 1982 on children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, we can propose indications for this exam in relation with the different clinical stages and evolution of the disease. Two cases of tuberculous meningitis showed that there is a delay between the C.T. images and the clinical signs. The computed tomography which was still normal one and two months after the first clinical signs did not permit an early diagnosis of the tuberculous meningitis. It did not give either, at least in the beginning, a good appreciation of the results of the treatment, since most of the C.T. images appeared and/or increased while the patient's conditions had already been improving under treatment for several days or weeks. In a long range, however, the C.T. images usually disappear.

BACKGROUND: Radiation dosimetry is essential for radiation therapy (RT) to ensure that radiation dose is accurately delivered to the tumor. Despite its wide use in clinical intervention, the delivered radiation dose can only be planned and verified via simulation.
