OBJECTIVE: The aim: To elaborate the thermosemiotics of acute and chronic tonsillitis during exacerbation.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: 48 patients with acute tonsillitis and 19 patients with chronic tonsillitis were examined during disease exacerbation. Thermographic examination was carried out by the medical thermometer TI-120. The objective of the present work was to develop the standardized approaches to pharmacotherapy of chronic tonsillitis based on the data of regional specificity of the tonsillar microflora. We present a 19-year-old woman with a throat infection, increased temperature, a positive mononucleosis monospot test and clinical signs of a lower respiratory tract infection. The diagnosis was thought to be mononucleosis complicated by bacterial pneumonia, but she was later found to have Fusobacterium necrophorum in blood cultures. Although the relationship between streptococcal tonsillitis and acute guttate psoriasis is well recognized, its relationship to chronic forms of psoriasis is less established. In order to explore this further, the authors questioned 35 patients with severe psoriasis and 35 age-matched eczema controls about their history of significant sore throats (i.e. requiring a GP visit) and any resultant worsening of the skin condition.
