Tn unexplained, autochthone Trichophyton simii infection in Europe is reported. The patient was a 11-year-old caucasian girl, who had never been out of Germany, nor had contact with anyone from abroad. The girl's only pet, a guinea pig, was proven to be free of dermatophytes. Clinically the infection represented a somewhat persistent circumscribed lesion at the dorsum of one upper arm characterized mainly by small granulomata around hair follicles with only a slight erythematosquamous component.

The examinations have been performed with glycoproteidic fractions of Trichophyton verrucosum (Tv-GP) and T. mentagrophytes (Tm-GP) purified by a method of gel chromatography. We present two cases of tinea corporis caused by Trichophyton verrucosum and Trichophyton interdigitale in a teenage girl who works with farm animals. We describe the differences in presentation between zoophilic dermatophytes and anthropophilic dermatophytes. Also, we report some of the typical features of the two rare species, T. verrucosum and T. interdigitale. This case is significant to dermatology as it raises awareness about these uncommon zoophilic dermatophytoses and demonstrates the importance of educating patients about their mode of infection.
