A 33 year old woman with recurrent Salmonella enteritidis sepsis is described. Penicillins, ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, and chloramphenicol could not eradicate the salmonellas but a combination of high dose ciprofloxacin and ceftriaxone for the eighth episode successfully cured the infection. The combination of ciprofloxacin and ceftriaxone may be a valuable therapeutic regimen in patients with recurrent salmonella sepsis. Prolonged intrahepatic cholestasis resulting from granulomatous hepatitis in this patient improved considerably with empiric ursodeoxycholic acid treatment. A liver biopsy s

Pediatric liver masses are rare and difficult to treat. Common liver masses in children include hepatoblastoma, hemangiomas, liver abscesses, and hydatid disease. Isolated liver tuberculosis (TB) is rare in children and can have variable clinical presentations. We report a child with isolated liver TB masquerading as a liver tumor.

Primary hepatic tuberculosis is a rare manifestation of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis even in highly endemic countries. The incidence of hepatic tuberculosis has increased in the recent years due to high prevalence of HIV/AIDS. Radiological imaging is an important tool for making the diagnosis, but often the imaging findings are non-specific and may mimic other benign or malignant hepatic diseases. We report a case of 54-year-old woman who was detected to have hepatic mass on radiological imaging which was misdiagnosed as hydatid cyst. Intraoperatively, the characteristic features of hydatid cy

Abdominal tuberculosis is a common clinical entity in Indian subcontinent; however, hepatic tuberculosis in the absence of miliary abdominal tuberculosis is restricted to the case reports and small case series in English literature. It mimics common liver diseases like liver abscess and tumours. We report a case of 38 years old male presenting with abdominal pain, loss of appetite and weight initially misdiagnosed as intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma on magnetic resonance imaging and FNAC of the lesion but later diagnosed as a case of hepatic tuberculosis on post operative histopathology specime

BACKGROUND: Hepatic tuberculosis (TB) shows non-specific symptoms, and liver imaging may provide diagnostic clues. Here we describe a series of patients with hepatic TB showing characteristic radiological findings.
METHODS: Single-centre retrospective evaluation of patients with hepatic TB diagnosed over a period of 16 years who underwent ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Hepatic lesions were classified as miliary, nodular, serohepatic or cholangitis.
RESULTS: Of 14 patients with hepatic TB, five were co-infected with the human immunodeficiency vir

A 78-yr-old female with a short history of malaise, anorexia, mild pyrexia, and obstructive jaundice is presented. A diagnosis of tuberculosis of the liver and gallbladder was established at laparotomy. In spite of anti-tuberculous therapy, the patient died on the 5th postoperative day. Widespread miliary tuberculosis affecting the lung, kidneys, spleen, and mesenteric lymph nodes was observed in postmortem studies, with strikingly severe involvement of the intrahepatic bile ducts. Saccular dilatation of the bile ducts alternating with areas of stenosis and narrowed intrahepatic bile ducts was

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Tuberculosis, a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, may invade all organs but mainly affect lungs. Most hepatic tuberculosis could be a part of systemic miliary tuberculosis.
METHODS: We reported a case of pulmonary tuberculosis combined with hepatic tuberculosis and reviewed the relevant literature.
RESULTS: A 40-year-old Chinese male with fatigue for half a year and cough as well as night sweat for 2 months was admitted to our hospital. The chest computed tomography (CT) showed multiple nodules combined with bronchial stenosis and lymphaden

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) remains a major cause of infectious-disease mortality worldwide. Host metabolic status may shape treatment response, but whether hepatic steatosis affects sputum smear conversion in PTB remains poorly defined.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective single-center cohort study including newly diagnosed, smear-positive PTB patients treated at Taizhou People's Hospital between January 2022 and December 2025. Patients were classified according to sputum smear conversion status, with delayed conversion defined as persistent smear positivity beyond 8 weeks aft

Hepatic tuberculosis (HTB) is rare extrapulmonary tuberculosis that is clinically similar to liver malignancy, making it difficult for correct diagnoses. Pathology is the gold standard for tuberculosis diagnosis. However, there are few reports on the pathological features of HTB. A total of 32 HTB cases were considered and the differences in pathological features and drug resistance were analyzed and compared with those for pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Enhanced CT scans showed ring-shaped delayed enhancement during the arterial, venous, and delayed phases. Most HTB cases were single lesions,

A 67-year-old man developed hepatic and renal failure over a six-day period. Despite full supportive measures, he died on his 11th day of hospitalization with fulminant DIC and hepatic, renal, and respiratory failure. Postmortem examination revealed acid-fast bacilli in virtually all organ systems. Miliary tuberculosis should be considered as a potentially treatable cause of hepatic failure.

Tuberculosis of the liver is uncommon except in association with miliary dissemination. Although hepatic involvement by tuberculosis tends to be diffuse, the macronodular or pseudotumor forms are rare. In addition, reports of actual imaging of tuberculous liver involvement are rare. A 5-year-old boy with a febrile illness due to macronodular hepatic tuberculosis, demonstrated by abdominal computed tomography (CT), and diagnosed by liver biopsy is presented.

The possible development of hepatotoxic effects as a result of high dosages of isoniazid, rifampin, pyrazinamide, and ethionamide was assessed in 56 young children (median age, 22 months) treated for severe tuberculous meningitis (TBM). Only one of the 56 children became jaundiced, probably as result of hepatitis A infection. Of 33 children observed for at least eight weeks, only five (15%) had normal serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and gamma-glutamyl transferase levels throughout, but in only three patients were AST or ALT values greater than 200 U/L, a

BACKGROUND: Many case reports describe tuberculosis (TB) co-existent with a malignant neoplasm. However, the neoplasm in most of these reports is lung or breast cancer, with only two cases of liver cancer concomitant with TB reported in the literature. Although both TB and cancer are very common diseases, little attention has been given to the pathophysiologic and practical implications of their co-existence.
METHODS: Case report and literature review.
CASE REPORT: A 73-year-old female patient with a history of hypertension and hepatitis C presented with abdominal pain of 2 mos duration. Lab

Tubercular involvement of liver is rare and usually occurs in association with pulmonary or miliary tuberculosis, as diffuse involvement without recognizable pulmonary tuberculosis or rarely in a localized form, which presents as a tuberculoma or tubercular abscess. We report the case of a 22-year-old boy presenting with features of obstructive jaundice and a clinico-radiological picture highly suggestive of a perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (Klatskin tumor), but found to have tubercular involvement of porta hepatis. We review the literature on this unusual presentation, highlight the considerabl

INTRODUCTION: Acquired ichthyosis is an uncommon disease usually associated with different systemic diseases. Its characteristic clinical sign is symmetrical scaling of the skin. We report a case of acquired ichthyosis revealing hepatic and lymph node tuberculosis.
CASE: A 41-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with weight loss and generalized acquired ichthyosis. Ultrasonography and computer tomography showed enlargement of abdominal lymph nodes. Lymph node and liver biopsy samples were taken during exploratory laparotomy and revealed multiple lymphoepitheliomas with Langhans-type gian

AIM: To assess CT, MR manifestations and their diagnostic value in hepatic tuberculosis.
METHODS: CT findings in 12 cases and MR findings in 4 cases of hepatic tuberculosis proved by surgery or biopsy were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULTS: (1) CT findings: One case of serohepatic type of hepatic tuberculosis had multiple-nodular lesions in the subcapsule of liver. Parenchymal type was found in 10 cases, including multiple, miliary, micronodular and low-density lesions with miliary calcifications in 2 cases; singular, low-density mass with multiple flecked calcifications in 3 cases; multiple
