Uterine perforation can occur following first-trimester abortion or more commonly postpartum after evacuation of retained placental tissues. We report a case of a pregnancy at the site of a recent uterine perforation. Possible mechanisms of this rare condition and different therapeutic options are mentioned.

The English language literature on IUDs was reviewed to evaluate the uterine perforation rate associated with use of the Multiload. No reports of cervical perforation were found, and the uterine perforation rate was 0.12/1000 insertions compared to a rate of 0.68/1000 insertions for other copper-bearing IUDs. This lower rate may reflect an under-reporting of uterine perforations in the medical literature, or may represent a truly lower perforation rate due to factors related to the Multiload design and/or its insertion technique.

We present here a case of uterine perforation following manual removal of the placenta during the third stage of normal labor. Total abdominal hysterectomy was performed, and the 4x3-cm perforation of the uterus and placenta accreta were confirmed. In this case, the round ligament covering the hematoma prevented bleeding into the peritoneal cavity and peritonitis. Manual removal of the placenta should be performed carefully following ultrasonographic assessment for placental abnormalities such as placenta accreta.

The generally accepted indications for removal of an intra-abdominal intrauterine device (IUD) are: a) a closed variety of IUD, b) medicated IUDs with copper or hormone release, and c) a medico-legal or psychological problem. A perforated IUD can be left in the peritoneal cavity if it is made of non-irritating plastic. The copper IUD causes adhesions, but these lead to few cases of serious complications. The reason for removal of the IUD stems only from the fear of adhesion formation. Our experience, supported by the literature, leads us to believe that this indication should no longer be acce

This article reports on a patient who had an asymptomatic perforation of the uterus by an intrauterine contraceptive device. Six and eight years later, the woman had normal pregnancies and deliveries. Ten years later an exploratory laparotomy was performed because of abdominal pain of unknown origin. The intrauterine device was surgically removed from Douglas' pouch. We summarize and discuss the complications due to a perforation of the uterus by an intrauterine contraceptive device and appropriate diagnostic procedures.

A patient with genital tuberculosis who conceived with in-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer following hysteroscopic synechiolysis complicated by a fundal uterine perforation subsequently presented with uterine rupture at 36 weeks gestation. Immediate Caesarean section and repair of the ruptured uterus were performed. Women with a history of uterine perforation should be counselled regarding the risk of uterine rupture during their subsequent pregnancies.

OBJECTIVE: Safety of the uterine manipulator (UM) within endometrial cancer (EC) surgery is being questioned. Its use might be one of the issues for potential tumor dissemination during the procedure, especially in the case of uterine perforation (UP). No prospective data on this surgical complication, nor on the oncological consequences exist. The aim of this study was to assess the rate of UP while using UM when performing surgery for EC and the impact of UP on the choice of adjuvant treatment.
METHODS: We conducted a prospective single-center cohort study from November 2018 to February 202…

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Transvaginal uterine restoration of nonpuerperal uterine inversion is difficult; there are risks of heavy bleeding and uterine perforation. In such cases, total hysterectomy and transfusion are inevitable.
ABSTRACT: A 47-year-old woman with profuse genital bleeding, diagnosed with nonpuerperal uterine inversion caused by a uterine fibroma, underwent emergency surgery. Uterine perforation occurred during transvaginal uterine restoration, revealed by laparoscopy. Bleeding persisted and blood transfusion volume increased; therefore, a total hysterectomy was performed for he…

Hysteroscopy is the current gold standard for evaluating intrauterine pathology, including submucous fibroids, polyps, hyperplasia and cancer. However, there are still problems and complications connected to hysteroscopy. Fluid overload of 1-2l occurs in approximately 5.2% and >2l in 1% of cases. This article discusses the physiology, implications and treatment of these cases. Uterine perforation is encountered in nearly 1% of cases. We describe the precautions to avoid this perforation and the methods to treat it. The article also discusses excessive bleeding, which occurs in 3% of operative …
