Acute ventricular rate control in atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter.

Atrioventricular node blocking agents including beta-adrenergic blockers, non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers and digoxin are usually effective in controlling ventricular rate in atrial fibrillation and flutter. Intravenous beta-blockers and non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers are equally effective in rapidly controlling the ventricular rate. The addition of digoxin to the regimen causes a favorable outcome but digoxin as a single agent is generally less effective in slowing the ventricular rate in acute setting. Clonidine, magnesium, and amiodarone have also been used for ac

[Prinzmetal's variant form of angina pectoris occurring with ventricular tachycardia, ventricular flutter and fibrillation].

After a brief literature survey, the author described a patient of 42, with its first stenocardia paroxysm, accompanied by tachycardia, clonic-tonic convulsion as MAS syndrome, loss of consciousness and spontaneous restoration. After 6 hours a second stenocardia paroxysm followed, when a gigantic ST segment elevation was recorded in precordial leads, appearance of paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, loss of consciousness, restored via defibrillation. ST elevation faded by the 25 the minute. The changes are stressed to be most likely due to coronary spasm of r. descend

[Double tachycardia: association of an atrial flutter and a fascicular ventricular tachycardia].

Double tachycardia is an uncommon type of tachycardia. We report the case of a 42-year-old patient, admitted in our department for palpitations. Two types of tachycardia, narrow and wide QRS one, have been documented in the moment of palpitations. The electrophysiology study highlights an atrial flutter and a fascicular ventricular tachycardia. The patient had no recurrence of palpitations after atrial flutter ablation and medical treatment by verapamil for his ventricular tachycardia. This is the first published case combining an atrial flutter and a ventricular tachycardia.

Trends in ventricular fibrillation/flutter mortality in US population, 1999 to 2019.

BACKGROUND: The Ventricular fibrillation and flutter (VF/VFL)-related mortality trends in the United States (US) population have not yet been investigated. We aimed to assess the trends of VT/VFL-related mortality from 1999 to 2019 among subjects aged more than 15 years old in the US. METHODS: Data derived from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) WONDER were analyzed between 1999 and 2019 for VF/VFL-related mortality in subjects aged more than 15 years of age. Adjusted mortality rates (AAMRs) per 100,000 people by year, sex, race and urban-rural status with relative confide

[Auricular fibrillation and flutter with slow ventricular frequency. Clinical and electrophysiological study].

We have studied atrio-ventricular conduction in 9 patients with atrial fibrillation and flutter and ventricular response below 90 per minute, by means of His bundle electrograms. Despite the finding of intraventricular conduction defects in 6 cases, the block of the atrial impulses occurred at the high atrio-ventricular junction in every case. In four patients the arrhythmia was an incidental finding and there were no other signs of cardiac disease. Several patients tolerated low ventricular rates for years without symptoms, but in two cases it was necessary to insert a pacemaker to treat cere

Relation between atrioventricular pathways and ventricular response during atrial fibrillation and flutter.

We have analysed the ventricular response as seen on the surface electrocardiogram in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and flutter in relation to the electrophysiological properties of the corresponding atrioventricular pathways. In 15 patients who had atrial fibrillation with conduction solely through the atrioventricular node, there was a significant correlation between th shortest and mean RR intervals during atrial fibrillation and the functional refractory period, "pre-Wenckebach cycle length", and the shortest ventricular cycle length that resulted from 1:1 atrioventricular c

Atrial Flutter-Triggered Ventricular Tachycardia Storm in Gitelman Syndrome: A Case Report.

Gitelman syndrome is an inherited renal tubulopathy characterized by hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia, which can increase susceptibility to cardiac arrhythmias. Although ventricular arrhythmias have been reported, ventricular tachycardia (VT) storm triggered by atrial tachyarrhythmia with recurrent implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapies is uncommon. A 68-year-old woman with Gitelman syndrome, chronic kidney disease stage IIIa, long-QT physiology, and sinus bradycardia status post pacemaker implantation with subsequent dual-chamber ICD placement presented after palpitations follow

An incidental finding of Cor Triatriatum in an adult with left ventricular dysfunction and atrial flutter.

The global incidence of Cor Triatriatum ranges from 0.1% to 0.4 globally. It is a rare diagnosis, with only a few cases reported in Africa. This case report outlines the first presentation of Cor Triatriatum in a 34-year-old female previously diagnosed with post-partum cardiomyopathy. The purpose of this case report was to raise awareness about the presence of congenital heart disease in adulthood as a potential cause of heart failure. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of detailed echocardiography using advanced imaging techniques for evaluating defects and co-existing lesions.

Coexistence of Atrial Flutter and Slow Ventricular Tachycardia: A Rare Cause of Reversible Cardiomyopathy.

BACKGROUND: Dual tachycardia, the rare coexistence of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and ventricular tachycardia (VT), is often challenging to diagnose, particularly when SVT with bundle branch block obscures VT signs and especially without clear atrioventricular dissociation. CASE SUMMARY: A 55-year-old man with a history of hypertension presented with chest tightness, dyspnea, and transient syncope. Initially misdiagnosed as having atrial flutter with ventricular aberrancy via electrocardiogram, the patient was ultimately confirmed through electrophysiological testing to have atrial flu
