We present 4 clinical cases showing late dye leakage on the optic disc related to vitreous traction. Optic disc dye leakage disappeared following posterior vitreous detachment in one patient, delamination of the posterior hyaloid in two patients and segmentation of the posterior vitreous surface in one patient. Vitreous traction should be added to the previously described causes of optic disc dye leakage.

Intraocular silicone oil tamponade is used as an adjunct to vitrectomy in the treatment of proliferative vitreoretinopathy. The authors analyzed the effect of silicone oil on the corneal endothelium in 28 patients (10 phakic and 18 aphakic). In the phakic group, the endothelial cellular loss is small, no significant. In the aphakic group, the endothelial cellular loss is 20%.

This review article addresses the central problem that although the vitreous body constitutes approximately 80% of the ocular volume, it can often only be insufficiently clinically assessed due to its transparency. This article therefore emphasizes the necessity for improved diagnostic methods to be able to make a better assessment of the actual role of the vitreous body in health and disease.

BACKGROUND: one of the most intriguing complications in phacoemulsification is the rupturing of the posterior capsule with los of the nucleus into the vitreous. As severe inflammation will follow, the removal of the nucleus is mandatory. Several methods have been described. Our approach has the advantage to minimize some of the imminent risks.
PATIENTS AND METHOD: On 15 eyes phacoemulsification in the vitreous cavity following vitrectomy has been carried out. Supporting liquids like viscoelastic substances or fluordecalin were not necessary.
RESULTS: There was no indication of retinal damage

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between the microbiological results of the vitreous humor and those of foreign body specimens in patients with intraocular foreign body (IOFB).
METHODS: Seventy-one patients with an IOFB were included in this descriptive prospective case series. All patients underwent immediate IOFB removal. Vitreous sampling was performed during vitrectomy. Foreign bodies were placed directly into culture media for microbiological study.
