Ten patients with ocular histoplasmosis (photocoagulated 17 times) were retrospectively selected, in what was considered an unbiased manner, for examination of their response to partial xenon photocoagulation of their neovascular nets. OBJECTIVE: To develop a treatment for tinnitus called xenon phototherapy of the stellate ganglion (XPSG) and analyze its effect on tinnitus.
METHODS: Patients with chronic tinnitus received XPSG. Symptoms were assessed subjectively with tinnitus handicap inventory (THI) and numerical rating scale (NRS). THI and NRS scores were analyzed in XPSG (n = 43) and sham treatment (non-XPSG) (n = 18) groups.

In this work, a compartmental model to predict the concentration of hyperpolarized xenon (Xe) in the brain is developed based on the well established kinetics of Xe and estimated T1 values for the compartments. For the gaseous compartments, T1 was set to 12 seconds. For the tissue compartments, T1 was set to 6 seconds. Exposure of pregnant rats to the anesthetic nitrous oxide on the ninth day of gestation causes fetal resorption, skeletal anomalies, and macroscopic lesions including encephalocele, anophthalmia, microphthalmia, and gastroschisis. The inert gas xenon, which has anesthetic properties similar to those of nitrous oxide, does not cause teratogenic effects under the same experimental conditions.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Xe-CT measures CBF and can be used to make clinical treatment decisions. Availability has been limited, in part due to safety concerns. Due to improvements in CT technology, the concentration of inhaled xenon gas has been decreased from 32% to 28%. To our knowledge, no data exist regarding the safety profile of this concentration.
