Fifteen patients with hyperprolactinaemia and pituitary macroadenomas (5 patients), microadenomas (6 patients), or acromegaly (4 patients) were given a single intramuscular injection of 50 mg bromocriptine bound to polylactic acid microspheres, depot-bromocriptine. The authors report the case of a patient with acromegaly. The clinical history was dominated by left ventricular failure, for which acromegaly was the only evident cause. The cardiac index, pulmonary arterial pressure and the average pulmonary capillary pressure were measured before ablation of the hypophyseal tumour; the measurements were repeated 3 months and 8 years later. Twenty-six acromegalics had measurements of serum growth hormone (GH) levels during a glucose tolerance test, X rays of the heel for heel pad thickness, and of the hand for bone/soft tissue ratio. These measurements were performed before and between 2 and 7 years after treatment, which was by transethmoidal hypophysectomy, external irradiation or a combination of the two. Neither the heel pad thickness nor bone/soft tissue ratio correlated with the mean serum GH nor with each other before and after treatment. We evaluated the pathogenesis of skin thickening in three patients with acromegaly. Growth hormone levels were normal in one patient and were elevated in two patients. We studied 65-year old, obese man suspected of obstructive sleep apnoea. He gave a history of loud snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness. We confirmed sleep apnoea syndrome during limited polysomnography with Polymesam (RDI--45/h, ODI--47/h). We report a case of urticaria pigmentosa, acromegaly and acanthosis nigricans in a 25-year-old male. The patient exhibited multiple pigmented papules on the trunk and the extremities.
