The antibodies in the sera of two patients with idiopathic Addison's disease, one reacting specifically with adrenocortical cells, the other with the various cell types which produce steroid hormones, have been found to be predominently IgG. The behaviour of the two antibodies in complement-fixation tests is in agreement with their reactivity, reported in the previous paper, in immunofluorescence tests. Cell fractionation studies suggest that both adrenal antigens are associated with the microsomal fraction. The biochemical properties of the antigens are consistent with the view that they are

BACKGROUND: Addison's disease which is due to dysfunction of the adrenal gland, with abnormal secretion of glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids, is rare. By inducing inflammation and disorders of water and electrolyte metabolism, Addison's disease may accelerate progression of co-existed cardiovascular diseases. Addison's disease combined with cardiovascular disease is infrequent, only 10 cases in the literature.
CASE PRESENTATION: We reported a 51-year-old male patient with unstable angina pectoris and hypotension. Changes on coronary angiography within 2 years suggested rapid progression

This case report describes a 25-year-old woman with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) who developed Addison disease (AD). The diagnosis was suspected due to a significant decrease in insulin requirement and recurrent hypoglycemia despite adjustments in insulin pump therapy. The patient exhibited typical clinical features of AD, including hyperpigmentation and electrolyte imbalances. Early recognition and prompt treatment are crucial in preventing a life-threatening adrenal crisis. This case highlights the importance of vigilant monitoring of T1DM patients, e…

CONTEXT: Patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) have an increased risk of Addison disease (AD) development, but prediction of those at risk is not possible.
OBJECTIVE: To determine whether there are early clinical indicators that may denote the development of AD in adults with T1DM.
DESIGN: Observational, matched-cohort study.
SETTING: Patient data from Swedish national registries [National Diabetes Register (NDR), Inpatient Register, and Prescription Drug Register].
PARTICIPANTS: All patients with T1DM diagnosed with concomitant AD (n = 66) among the 36,514 adult patients with T1DM…

Cerebral sclerosis and Addison disease were observed at age 14 years in a previously healthy sister of an affected boy. Clinical findings and family history established the diagnosis of X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy, which is normallly confined to males. The affected female has a normal karyotype; both X chromosomes are morphologically inconspicuous. Thus, this patient may be the first documented example of clinically manifest adrenoleukodystrophy in a heterozygote, which supports our previous conclusion that this X-linked locus is subject to inactivation.

BACKGROUND: Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder deriving from an aberrant adaptive immune response against gluten-containing grains in genetically predisposed subjects. In a number of patients, CD is associated with one or more other autoimmune diseases. Primary Addison's disease (AD) and CD may co-exist, although this association is relatively uncommon in children. In addition, it is not precisely defined whether a gluten-free diet influences the course of AD.
CASE PRESENTATION: A case of CD in a 12-year-old boy presenting as acute adrenal insufficiency is described here. A gluten-

The coexistence of autoimmune endocrine diseases, particularly autoimmune thyroid disease and celiac disease (CD), has recently been reported. We here present a 23-year-old woman with a diagnosis of hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto's thyroiditis, autoimmune Addison's disease, and kariotypically normal spontaneous premature ovarian failure. Considering the close association between autoimmune diseases and CD, we decided to search for IgA anti-endomysium antibodies (EmA) in the serum. The positivity of EmA and the presence of total villous atrophy at jejunal biopsy allowed the diagnosis of CD. On

Autoimmune Addison's disease (AAD) is treated with daily oral hormone replacements for cortisol and aldosterone. The current treatment is sub-optimal, and frequently results in supra- and infra-physiological cortisol levels that might negatively affect the brain and cognitive functioning. It is currently unclear if the brains of these patients need to be better protected. The present study investigates brain function during working memory in young adults with AAD compared to healthy controls. All participants (56 AAD (33 females), 62 controls (39 females), 19-43 years), underwent MRI brain sca
