Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission from rubber products manufacture processes, mixing, shaping and vulcanization were investigated in four rubber products factories in China. The source emission air was passively sampled by pre-vacuumized stainless steel canister and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-flame ionization detection (GC/MS-FID). The species profile of 107 VOCs in the emission processes were obtained. BACKGROUND: To study the use of trauma series radiographs in children that required activation of a trauma call.
METHODS: A retrospective review of patients younger than 16 years who presented to The Children's Hospital at Westmead between January and December 2004 with an injury that required activation of the trauma team. Patients transferred from other institutions were excluded.
RESULTS: Two hundred seventy-four children were included in the study, with 166 boys. The mean age was 8 years, and average Injury Severity Score was 4. Sixteen children had an Injury Severity Score of above 15.

The effects of illumination of nail clippings by direct sunlight, UV lamps and fluorescent bulbs on native and radiation-induced electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signals in nails are presented. We evaluated the impact of the copper-silver ionization system in a hospital where hyperendemic nosocomial legionellosis and was present and all previous disinfection measures had failed. After implementation of the copper-silver ionization system, environmental colonization with Legionella species decreased significantly, and the incidence of nosocomial legionellosis decreased dramatically, from 2.45 to 0.18 cases per 1000 patient discharges.
