Accuracy of computed tomographic angiography compared to digital subtraction angiography in the diagnosis of intracranial stenosis and its impact on clinical decision-making.

BACKGROUND: Few studies to date have examined the accuracy of computed tomographic angiography (CTA) compared to digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in diagnosing intracranial stenosis. The purpose of this study was to compare CTA to DSA in diagnosing intracranial stenosis and to explore the impact of the addition of DSA on the management of stroke patients. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed all ischemic stroke or patients with transient ischemic attack who underwent CTA and DSA within 30 days of each other at our institution between January 2008 and July 2011. For each study, 2 blinded

Pioneering a Neurosurgical Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) Program: Lessons From 100 Cases Using 3D C-arm Technology.

INTRODUCTION: Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) remains the gold standard for diagnosing and managing cerebrovascular diseases, despite the increasing use of noninvasive imaging modalities. Traditionally performed in catheterization labs by interventional radiologists, the integration of DSA into neurosurgery operating theaters (OT) using 3D C-arm technology offers neurosurgeons greater control over diagnosis and treatment planning, reducing dependency on external specialists. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to describe the initiation and implementation of a DSA program in a neurosurgery OT us

Validation of a deep-learning based thrombus classifier on digital subtraction angiography using a large-scale dataset.

PURPOSE: Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) interpretation is observer dependent. This study evaluated the diagnostic performance of an existing deep-learning (DL) based thrombus classifier prior to clinical application. The intended use of the model is as a clinical decision-support tool to assist neuroradiological assessment during mechanical recanalization. METHODS: This retrospective study included an in-house dataset of DSA image series from endovascular recanalization procedures for anterior circulation occlusions collected over two years. For each case, two DSA runs were selected: o

Superselective 3D digital subtraction angiography and magnetic resonance fusion imaging for the management of micro-arteriovenous malformations.

Cerebral micro-arteriovenous malformations (AVM) are defined by an infracentimetric nidus or a nidus solely visible on superselective digital subtraction angiography (DSA).12 While representing a minority of brain AVMs, intracerebral hemorrhage is a frequent manifestation in this subset of AMVs.2 Micro-AVMs are often occult lesions, with superselective DSA being instrumental for increasing diagnostic yield.13 While superselective three-dimensional DSA (3D-DSA)/MR fusion imaging has been employed to better delineate anatomical proximity in cerebral AVMs with a visible nidus on MRI,4 this fusion

The role of intraoperative digital subtraction angiography for quality control of standard carotid endarterectomy using patch angioplasty.

The absence of technical defects is considered to be of great importance during carotid endarterectomy (CEA). In this context, both safe surgical technique and intraoperative quality control may be a fundamental part of the operative procedure. We have therefore undertaken a prospective study to evaluate the possible benefits of completion angiography in standard CEA using patch angioplasty. The objectives were three-fold: (1) to identify the incidence of defects requiring prompt revision; (2) to assess the perioperative stroke rate as well as the number of residual stenosis after 6 weeks in a

Correlation of quiescent-interval single-shot (QISS) magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), computed tomography angiography (CTA) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for peripheral arterial disease (PAD) assessment.

BACKGROUND: Cross-sectional imaging methods such as computed tomography angiography (CTA) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) are widely used for the assessment of peripheral arteries in patients with chronic limbthreatening ischemia (CLTI) or claudication. Given the limitations of CTA in evaluating heavily calcified vessels, we aimed to determine whether quiescent-interval single-shot (QISS) MRA provides better diagnostic agreement with digital subtraction angiography (DSA). PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study, 25 patients who underwent lower limb QISS MRA between April 20

Radiological measurements of dimensions of acutely ruptured internal carotid artery aneurysm: a comparative study between computed tomographic angiography and digital subtraction angiography.

After aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, most center practices treatment modality selection based on size and geometry in computed tomographic angiography. However, the validity as compared to digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is not well studied. Twenty patients with ruptured internal carotid artery aneurysm were identified in a two-year period. Mean difference in measurements from 3D computed tomographic angiography (3D-CTA) and 3D-DSA were less than 1 mm and 3D-DSA measurement did not alter the decision to proceed for endovascular embolization. With modern multislice computed tomograph
