A mersilene plate, cut according to the technique of Zagdoun, usually fixed to the conjoint tendon (in front of the latter) and to the inguinal ligament, is turned in front of the spermatic cord in the form of a cuff attached to itself and the aponeurosis of the obliquus externus. Thus strengthens the deficient deep and superfical anatomical layers in cases of large or recurrent inguinal hernia.

BACKGROUND: Camitz opponensplasty performed for severe carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is sometimes complicated during the dissection of palmar aponeurosis, and it is difficult to obtain sufficient length and strength of the transition tendon. Inflammatory enthesitis is a hallmark of spondyloarthropathies (SSA) and may antedate other clinical manifestations. The involvement of Achilles tendon and plantar aponeurosis is common, with strong tendency toward fibrosis and calcification. We are describing imaging characteristics in a patient with positive HLA B-27 antigen with bilateral calcific achilles tendonitis who had pain in heels for 3 years.

A patient with bilateral otorrhagia and orbital hematoma following massive subgaleal hematoma is reported for the first time. The pathogenesis of the extensive subgaleal hematoma as well as the production of these unusual complications is discussed. This case would suggest that the weakest points in the attachment of the epicranial aponeurosis to the base of the calvarium are its attachments to the squamous part of the temporal bone and to the frontal bone under the eyebrow.

Retraction of the upper eyelid associated with shortening of the levator mechanism occurs most commonly in association with Graves' disease but occasionally arises as a complication of blepharoplasty or other surgical procedures. A new technique of a castellated type aponeurotomy of the levator aponeurosis is carried out to lengthen the levator. This procedure appears to give a predictable, stable and symmetrical result.

A technique for improving the shutter mechanism in the treatment of inguinal hernias is presented. The lateral leaf of the external oblique is fashioned to accommodate the emerging spermatic cord and is brought to a more posterior plane by suturing it to the inguinal ligament. This supporting flap is anchored to the internal oblique aponeurosis and anterior rectus sheath, keeping the sutures deep to the internal oblique, but superficial to the transverse plane.

The present study seeks to determine the main events that occur in the development of the tensor veli palatini (TVP). A light microscope was used on serial sections of 60 human specimens from weeks 6 to 16 of development. Over the last 7 years, I have used a "central aponeurosis disinsertion" technique to correct dysthyroid upper eyelid retraction in nine patients. Consistent and predictable results were achieved and maintained over follow-up periods ranging from 18 to 72 months. The technique is simple and effective, and does not involve extensive dissection or the use of a spacer.

After a tractus-intermedius rupture of the extensor aponeurosis of the ring finger, a Kirschner wire infection developed following an initially uncomplicated course after surgical care and PIP-joint transfixation. In spite of adequate therapy, destruction of the PIP-joint subsequently developed with an ulnar dislocation of the distal ring finger. With an unicondylar corrective osteotomy it was possible to achieve a normal position and an improvement in mobility.

The article describes indications, preparing and operative technique of partial aponeuroectomy with dissection of the zone of higher afferent innervation of palmar aponeurosis and postoperative treatment of the patients. Two hundred operations were performed under conditions of the out-patient clinic. The I and II degree contractures were successfully treated in 96.7% of the cases. Satisfactory results were obtained in patients with the IIId degree of the disease.
