Youth with severe obesity do not demonstrate increased eating disorder symptoms following family-based behavioral obesity treatment.

PURPOSE: To investigate eating disorder symptoms before and after family-based behavioral treatment for severe obesity in youth. METHODS: Eating disorder symptoms were measured pre- and posttreatment in 74 youth (age: 10-18 years; 58% female; mean body mass index standard deviation score [BMI SDS]: 3.11) enrolled in a 17-session treatment for severe obesity. Symptoms were assessed using the Youth-Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (Y-EDE-Q), including a global score and sub-scales for dietary restraint, eating-, weight- and shape concerns. Robust linear mixed models and generalized mix

Eye-tracking and behavioral measures of mind-wandering relate to depressive symptoms in children: a preliminary study.

Elevated levels of mind-wandering in adults have been associated with both negative mood and depressive symptoms. Eye-tracking studies have further identified relationships between pupil dilation and mind-wandering as well as depression in adults. Although children tend to mind wander at similar rates as adults and adolescents, less is known about how both mind-wandering and pupillometry during cognitive tasks relate to depressive symptoms in children. In this preliminary study, we tested associations between mind-wandering, phasic and tonic pupillary responses, and depression symptoms in sixt

Association between behavioral and psychological symptoms and cerebral small vessel disease MRI findings in memory clinic patients.

OBJECTIVES: Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) is commonly observed among elderly individuals with cognitive impairment and has been recognized as a vascular contributor to dementia and behavioral and psychological symptoms (BPS), however, the relationship between BPS and SVD burden remains unclear. METHODS: We prospectively recruited 42 patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild dementia from the memory clinic in our hospital, who were assigned to either a clinical dementia rating (CDR) of 0.5 or 1.0, respectively. The presence of BPS was determined through interviews with caregi

History of pre-pregnancy maternal symptoms of binge eating and childhood behavioral problems in girls and boys.

OBJECTIVE: To explore whether children of mothers with pre-pregnancy binge eating (BE) symptoms have more behavioral difficulties compared with those without and whether associations are moderated by ED symptoms and other maternal health and social factors measured during childhood. METHOD: Pre-pregnancy BE symptoms were collected by the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health at Survey 1 (in 1996) and/or at Survey 2 (in 2000) using questions mapped to DSM BE criterion 1. In 2016/7, 2180 women from the 1973-78 cohort provided data on externalizing and internalizing behavior, measured

Impact of Plasma Donepezil Concentration on Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia in Patients with Alzheimer's Disease.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) detract from the quality of life of not only dementia patients but also their family members and caregivers. Donepezil is used to treat Alzheimer's disease and is metabolized via cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6 and CYP3A4/5. It is controversial whether donepezil improves or exacerbates BPSD. This study investigated the relationships among BPSD, the pharmacokinetics of donepezil including its metabolite, 6-O-desmethyl donepezil, genetic polymorphisms of CYPs and P-glycoprotein, and patient backgrounds in 52 patients with Al

Development of a Thai tool for assessing behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia: A confirmatory factor analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The early recognition and management of the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) are important to inform treatment decisions. Current BPSD screening tools are time-consuming and require advanced skills, limiting their application in routine clinical practice. An easier and quicker tool for use by nonphysician healthcare personnel is needed. METHODS: A 14-item, Thai-language, BPSD scoring system for dementia (BPSD-T) was developed, based on clinical surveys and modifications after a pilot study. The Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), BPSD-T, Thai Mental State E

Efficacy and Safety of ECT for Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD): A Retrospective Chart Review.

OBJECTIVE: Much of the functional disturbance in patients with dementia reflects the presence of noncognitive behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Agitation is among the most distressing symptoms for patients, clinicians, and caregivers. Currently no pharmacotherapy has clearly been shown to be of value for this condition. This study used a chart review method to examine the safety and efficacy of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for patients with dementia receiving ECT for agitation. METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted of patients with dementia presenting
