BACKGROUND: The expressions of CD95 (Fas/APO-1) and Bcl-2 are determinants of apoptosis in normal lymphocytes, and abnormalities in their expressions might contribute to the induction of autoimmunity. In this study, we examined the expressions of CD95 and Bcl-2 on freshly isolated T and B cells from patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) or chronic hepatitis C associated with autoimmune phenomena (CH-C(AI)).

BACKGROUND: Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) is a tick-borne viral haemorrhagic fever endemic to southern India.
METHODS: We present a case series of five PCR-confirmed patients with KFD who developed oral candidiasis. CD4 and CD8 T-lymphocyte counts were measured using flow cytometry alongside detailed clinical assessment.
RESULTS: All five patients with candidiasis had CD4 counts <300 cells/µl, and four had CD8 counts <200 cells/µl. None had other known immunosuppressive conditions.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis screening is recommended for people living with HIV. The QuantiFERON-TB test measures the cell-mediated response against M. Tuberculosis. AIMS: To evaluate the expression of the alpha 5 beta 1 integrin fibronectin receptor (FNR), which mediates several processes, including phagocytosis, cell motility and the immune response, on T lymphocytes of patients with HIV-1 infection.
METHODS: T lymphocytes were incubated with monoclonal antibody directed against FNR and then with monoclonal antibodies, conjugated with phycoerythrin, directed against CD3, CD4 and CD8 positive cells. Expression of FNR on CD3, CD4 and CD8 positive cells was analysed using flow cytometry.

Regulatory T cells (Treg) play a crucial role in the regulatory mechanisms of immune system. They are responsible for the induction and maintenance of immune tolerance. They are also involved in the pathogenesis of autoimmune and allergic diseases and implicated in transplant rejection and immunopathology of cancers. Treg cells constitute the population of lymphocytes heterogeneous in their phenotype. CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ cells are most important among Treg subsets. Modification of Treg actvity may be useful in the therapy of different diseases, including allergic disorders.
