BACKGROUND: Treatment of children with intravenous ceftriaxone on an ambulatory basis is described. This allows a child to remain at home, but also be reviewed regularly when attending the Emergency Department for antibiotics.
METHODS: Indications for, and length of, treatment and laboratory parameters were recorded. Also, a survey of children's parents was undertaken to ascertain opinions regarding ambulatory treatment.

Following intravenous administration of 2 g ceftriaxone, concentrations of the drug were assayed in serum, in thoracic duct lymph from dogs, and in mesenteric lymph nodes in patients. Antibacterial activity of lymph against S. typhi was also studied. We report 5 gonorrhea cases caused by ceftriaxone-resistant penA-60-carrying Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria during January-April 2025 in Thailand, successfully cured by ceftriaxone therapy. Most patients had prior over-the-counter antimicrobial drug exposure. Ceftriaxone-resistant gonococcal strains are spreading in Thailand, and strengthened gonorrhea and resistance surveillance and effective antimicrobial stewardship programs are needed.

BACKGROUND: Globally, gonorrhea remains a common sexually transmitted infection that can lead to serious sexual and reproductive health complications if left untreated. Management has become more challenging due to the rapid progression of antimicrobial resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Numerous factors may influence the optimal rollout of new gonococcal antibiotics. We compared 8 rollout strategies using a gonorrhea transmission model and ranked strategies by the number of gonococcal infections and clinically useful antibiotic lifespan. Rankings were most sensitive to the starting ceftriaxone resistance prevalence and screening frequency.

OBJECTIVES: Since June 2022, there has been a rise in the number of ceftriaxone-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae cases detected in England (n = 15), of which a third were XDR. We describe the demographic and clinical details of the recent cases and investigate the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of the isolates. For a comprehensive overview, we also reviewed 16 ceftriaxone-resistant cases previously identified in England since December 2015 and performed a global genomic comparison of all publicly available ceftriaxone-resistant N. gonorrhoeae strains with mosaic penA alleles.

This randomized prospective study evaluated the safety and efficacy of a single oral dose of OFL compared to a single parenteral dose of CTRX prior to TURP. 191 patients (mean age: 68.7 +/- 6.2 years) with bacterial free urine before surgery were enrolled and received either OFL: 400 mg per os (n = 95) or CTRX: 1 g intrasmuscularly (n = 96) at the pre-anaesthetic medication time (two hours prior TURP).
