Poly(C)-binding proteins (PCBPs) are known as RNA-binding proteins that interact in a sequence-specific fashion with single-stranded poly(C). This family can be divided into two groups: hnRNP K and PCBP1-4. PCBPs are expressed broadly in human and mouse tissues and all members of the PCBP family are related evolutionarily. Tumors derived from lymphocytes, i.e., leukemias and lymphomas, generally grow diffusely in blood and bone marrow in the natural situation. Gynecomastia is benign enlargement of the male breast and is commonly drug induced. Various drugs are responsible and chemotherapeutic drugs can also cause gynecomastia. Cladribine is now widely used for the treatment of hairy cell leukaemia. We present a case report of development of unilateral gynecomastia in a case of hairy cell leukaemia treated with cladribine and question whether this was induced by the chemotherapy.
