Parotid acinar cell contains many secretory granules. Most of granules are mature, but only little immature granules are included. These immature granules are not enough for investigation of granule maturation. In this study, we show an easy method of separation of immature granules from the rat parotid gland. In addition, we succeeded in detection of color dye in the granules. These results suggest that secretory granules can be visualized through endocytosis.

In this study, we demonstrated that the highest activity of thymidine phosphorylase (TP) was found in peripheral blood mononuclear (PBM) cells followed by that of thrombocytes and granulocytes whereas no activity of TP could be detected in erythrocytes. The activity of TP in leukocytes proved to be intermediate compared to the TP activity observed in PBM cells and granulocytes. The activity of TP also was readily detectable in human fibroblasts.

Vasoocclusive episodes in sickle cell anemia may be initiated by adherence of erythrocytes to endothelium, one mechanism of which involves thrombospondin binding to CD36 on the red blood cell (RBC). We compared CD36 expression and its relationship to stress reticulocytosis in patients with sickle cell anemia and other chronic hemolytic disorders, including some after splenectomy.
