[Pancreatoduodenectomy for locally advanced ascending colon cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (mFOLFOX6)].

A 69-year-old man was referred to our hospital with the chief complaint of a palpable abdominal mass. Computed tomography and colonofiberscopy revealed that a large type 2 ascending colon cancer had invaded the duodenum and pancreas. To down-size the tumor, chemotherapy was planned and a FOLFOX regimen was effective; we therefore decided to perform a radical operation. The patient is still alive and disease-free 1 year and 8 months after the surgery.

Segmental heterogeneity of electrogenic secretions in human ascending colon and rectum.

AIMS: We have attempted to ascertain putative segmental differences in the secretory responses of the human ascending colon and rectum. METHODS: From the mucosal biopsy samples of two segments, the short-circuit current (I(sc)) and tissue resistance (R(te)) were compared under control conditions, as well as after the induction of secretion, using a modified Ussing chamber. We also performed semiquantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to detect and quantify transport proteins. RESULTS: The spontaneous I(sc) in the ascending colon was found to be greater than that

[Clinical study of detenia cecal-ascending colon continent cutaneous urinary reservoir].

OBJECTIVE: To construct a good continent urinary diversion which is easy to be performed and has a low incidence of complications. METHODS: 26 cases of bladder cancer were given radical cystectomy before the cecal-ascending colon was excluded and 15-20 cm of the cecal-ascending colon was isolated. The colon teniae were then incised at the interval of 0.5-1.0 cm to construct the detenia cecal-ascending colon continent urinary diversion open to the umbilicus. RESULTS: All the patients were followed up for 21.1 +/- 10.1 months. Reliable continence was achieved in all with a low incidence of com

[Orthotopic detenia cecal-ascending colon urinary reservoir: report of 18 cases].

OBJECTIVE: To improve the technique of detenia cecal-ascending colon continent urinary reservoir for farther improving the life quality of the patient. METHODS: Orthotopic detenia cecal-ascending colon urinary reservoir was carried out by complete resection of all the tenia and multiple transverse incision of colonic circular muscular layer for 18 patients with bladder cancer underwent radical cystectomy. RESULTS: The patients have been followed up for 6-20 months. All were completely continent during the day and 13 patients got complete continence at the night. Only 3 patients had nocturnal

Identification of putative 5-HT4 receptors in guinea-pig ascending colon.

Experiments were carried out to characterise pharmacologically a neuronal, non-5-HT3, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptor in guinea-pig isolated ascending colon. In preparations pretreated with methysergide (1 microM) and ondansetron (10 microM), 5-HT (0.003-1 microM) produced repeatable concentration-related contractions of guinea-pig ascending colon with an EC50 value of 29 (20-41) nM. The responses to 5-HT could be antagonised substantially by tetrodotoxin (0.3 microM) and atropine (1 microM) indicating a neuronal cholinergically mediated effect. The 5-HT-induced response was mimicked by 5-

Simulating the Hydrodynamic Conditions of the Human Ascending Colon: A Digital Twin of the Dynamic Colon Model.

The performance of solid oral dosage forms targeting the colon is typically evaluated using standardised pharmacopeial dissolution apparatuses. However, these fail to replicate colonic hydrodynamics. This study develops a digital twin of the Dynamic Colon Model; a physiologically representative in vitro model of the human proximal colon. Magnetic resonance imaging of the Dynamic Colon Model verified that the digital twin robustly replicated flow patterns under different physiological conditions (media viscosity, volume, and peristaltic wave speed). During local contractile activity, antegrade

Post-electrocoagulation Syndrome Following APC Treatment for Angiodysplasia in the Ascending Colon.

This case report presents a valuable instance of post-electrocoagulation syndrome (PECS) following argon plasma coagulation (APC) for angiodysplasia in the ascending colon. A 66-year-old male with decompensated liver cirrhosis and chronic kidney disease underwent APC to treat bleeding. Although the immediate outcomes were satisfactory, he developed localized abdominal pain and fever approximately eight hours after the procedure. Subsequent computed tomography and colonoscopy confirmed PECS without perforation. The patient's condition improved with conservative management. This case underscores

Congenital Segmental Dilatation of Ascending Colon with Distal Microcolon: A Diagnostic Dilemma.

A 5-day-old male presented with bilious vomiting, a grossly distended abdomen, and passage of a small amount of stool. The anal opening was at a normal position. X-ray abdomen showed a large bowel loop with a single air-fluid level occupying more than half of the abdominal width. On laparotomy, the ascending colon was dilated to form a pouch-like structure, and the ileum and appendix were opening into it. Colon distal to pouch was present as microcolon. Histopathology of the dilated segment was suggestive of congenital segmental dilatation (CSD). In CSD, the distal bowel is of normal caliber.

Collision Tumor Comprising Primary Malignant Lymphoma and Adenocarcinoma in the Ascending Colon.

We describe the case of a 78-year-old man with collision tumor from the primary malignant lymphoma and adenocarcinoma in the ascending colon. He suffered anemia from sigmoid colon cancer, and colonoscopy revealed early-stage colorectal cancer with a diameter of 20 mm in the cecum, the biopsy specimen showed moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed bowel wall thickening with contrast enhancement at the cecum; however, no lymph node and organ metastases were found. As above, we performed laparoscopic ileocecal resection with D3 lymph node diss

Metabolite profile comparisons between ascending and descending colon tissue in healthy adults.

BACKGROUND: Obesity is a risk factor for colorectal cancer, yet metabolic distinctions between healthy right and left colon tissue, before cancer is diagnosed, remains largely unknown. This study compared right-ascending and left-descending colon tissue metabolomes to identify differences from the stool metabolome in normal weight, overweight, and obese adults. AIM: To examine right and left colon tissue metabolites according to body mass index that may serve as mechanistic targets for interventions and biomarkers for colon cancer risk. METHODS: Global, non-targeted metabolomics was applied

[A Case Where Rectal Cancer Ileus Caused Perforation in the Ascending Colon].

The patient was a 65-year-old man. He had not defecated for a week in early December 2015, and had noticed abdominal pain and abdominaldistension from 4 days prior. The pain and distension worsened, and the patient was rush transported to our hospital. Via abdominal CT we found free air in the upper abdomen, expansion of the small and large intestines, and notably, significant intestinal tract expansion and a gas reservoir in the ascending colon. We found significant narrowing as well as hypertrophy along the entire circumference of the rectum and suspected gastrointestinal perforation due to

[A Case of Ascending Colon Cancer with Extra Iliac Lymph Node Metastases].

We report a case of ascending colon cancer with right extra iliac lymph node metastases. A 60s-year-old woman underwent right hemicolectomy with lymph node dissection in July 2011. Pathological diagnosis was T4 (SE), N1 (2/42), M0, stage ⅢA. Adjuvant chemotherapy with tegafur/uracil was administered after the operation for 6 months. One year after the operation, the serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level was gradually increasing. Three years after the operation, positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) delineated a 3 cm mass with an abnormal signal on the right lower abdom
