A young lady who had aplastic anaemia presented for cerebral venous thrombosis after five years of follow up. She was diagnosed to have paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria. She had received immunosuppressive therapy with methylprednisolone, cyclosporine-A, anti-lymphocyte globulin, danazol and pregnenolone. The relation between aplastic anaemia, paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria and cerebral venous thrombosis is discussed. The role of immunosuppressive therapy for aplastic anaemia in causation of paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria is reviewed.

Glucocorticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulins, vincristine, danazol, and eltrombopag are used in refractory chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). All those treatment modalities are susceptible for thrombosis generation. There is an increased risk of thrombosis in the diseases' natural course. The case we present is a resistant chronic ITP patient who developed pulmonary and intracardiac thrombosis during multidrug treatment. Risk of concomitant usage of drugs and rapid increase in platelet count are discussed.

The main haematological manifestations seen in patients with antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) are thrombocytopenia, usually mild, and haemolytic anaemia with a positive Coombs test. Owing to the shared characteristics with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, similar rules are followed in the treatment of these cytopenias. Two patients with severe aPL associated cytopenias, who required splenectomy after being refractory to steroids, immunosuppressive agents, and other treatments (intravenous gammaglobulin, danazol), are described, and previously reported cases are reviewed.

A patient with longstanding erythroderma and decreased sweat secretion due to the classical adult form of pityriasis rubra pilaris is described. The patient did not respond to oral megadoses of Vitamin A, even though a large increase of liver content of Vitamin A was demonstrated. Retinol-binding protein levels in serum of this patient and his relatives were normal. Danazol (Danatrol, Winthrop) therapy caused an increase of retinol-binding protein level, but clinical improvement did not occur.

A patient presented at the age of 72 years with a life long history of at least 60 years of abdominal crises described by the patient as 'bilious vomiting or migraine'. However, a careful clinical and family history suggested a diagnosis of hereditary angioneurotic oedema and this was confirmed by complement studies. Treatment with oral ethinyltestosterone (Danazol) was successful in abolishing her attacks, initially at a dose of 600 mg. per day and laterally at the low dose of 200 mg per day.
