Integration of COSMO-RS and ANN-GA for extraction of echinacoside and acteoside from Cistanche deserticola using natural deep eutectic solvents.

A novel method for green extraction of echinacoside and acteoside from Cistanche deserticola (C. deserticola) using natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) has been developed, integrating conductor-like screening model for realistic solvents (COSMO-RS) and artificial neural network-genetic algorithm (ANN-GA) optimization to maximize efficiency. Among 48 NADES evaluated, choline chloride-propylene glycol (1:3 M ratio, 30 wt% water content) was identified as the optimal solvent through COSMO-RS and single-factor optimization. The ANN model (3-9-1 topology, R > 0.99) efficiently captured nonlinear…

pH-Regulated Reversible Phase Transition of Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents and Its Application in the Extraction of Fluorinated Liquid Crystal Monomers.

Fluorinated liquid crystal monomers (FLCMs) are widely used in various electronic materials owing to their outstanding optoelectronic properties. However, their persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity, such as endocrine disruption, in the environment have rendered them emerging contaminants of significant concern. Switchable natural deep eutectic solvents (SNADESs) are prepared from natural compounds and their metabolites. These solvents possess the characteristics of green solvents while overcoming many limitations of conventional organic solvents, and have thus been widely adopted in the …

In Situ Confinement of 0D Halometallates Within Deep Eutectic Solvents: From Systematic Screening to Metal-Tunable Luminescence for Anti-Counterfeiting Eutectogels.

Despite the promising microenvrionments of deep eutectic solvents (DESs), including their charge-rich nature, tunable polarity, and microviscosity, the role of neat DESs as photonic media has remained largely underexplored, often relying on the addition of ex situ-synthesized luminophores to produce photoluminescence (PL). Here, we report a photostable, metal ion (Mn+)-tunable luminescent DES platform driven by the in situ formation of zero-dimensional (0D) halometallates stabilized within a designed hydrogen bond network. Combinatorial screening of hydrogen bond acceptors and donors identifie…

Deep Eutectic Solvent-Assisted Synergistic Technologies for the Extraction of Natural Bioactive Compounds: Enhancement Mechanisms, Application Advances, and Challenges.

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have emerged as promising green extraction media for natural bioactive compounds, offering tunable physicochemical properties, biocompatibility, and lower toxicity than conventional organic solvents. However, the high viscosity of DESs limits mass transfer efficiency, necessitating integration with auxiliary technologies to overcome this intrinsic constraint. Unlike previous reviews that focus on DESs coupled with a single auxiliary technique, this review for the first time integrates DESs with ultrasound, microwave, enzymatic assistance, and multi-technique hybri…

A lignin-based gel preparation enabled by a deep eutectic solvent pretreatment recycling liquor: towards a full utilization of lignocellulose.

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are widely applied in lignocellulosic biomass pretreatment for their green, reusable, and lignin-selective merits. However, lignin accumulation during DES cycling significantly increases solvent viscosity and reduces pretreatment efficiency, severely limiting its sustainable application. To address this bottleneck, we innovatively combined recycled lactic acid/zinc chloride (LA/ZnCl2) DES with acrylic acid (AA), leveraging the synergistic effect of lignin and metal ions to drive free radical polymerization. This strategy enables a simple and efficient preparation …
