A 83-year-old male was admitted to the Emergency Department with acute haematochezia and abdominal pain. At digital rectal examination multiple soft distensions were palpable. Sigmoidoscopy revealed ischaemia of the rectum with severe gangrene. The patient was discharged after fluid resuscitation. Follow-up sigmoidoscopy 4 weeks later showed a fully recovered rectum.

We report a case of rectal carcinoid tumor totally resected by endoscopy. A 48-year-old male complained of abdominal discomfort. Digital examination revealed a slightly hard mass. Colonoscopy demonstrated a slightly hard mass measuring 13 mm in diameter in the rectum, 5 cm from the anal verge. Endoscopic resection was successfully performed and histological examination led to a diagnosis of carcinoid tumor. No local remnant lesion or distant metastasis was found.

A prospective study of colonic pathology with double contrast method was made of 146 patients sent to the X-ray department of the Black Lion Hospital, Addis Ababa. Prostate cancer is the fourth most common malignancy diagnosed in Missouri. The diagnosis may be clinically suspected based on an elevated serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) and/or digital rectal examination abnormality. Clinical symptoms are usually a manifestation of more advanced disease. The diagnosis is typically established by histopathologic examination of needle biopsy tissue. This article reviews clinical and pathological approaches to prostate cancer diagnosis, with a focus on clinically localized disease and needle biopsy diagnosis.

Treatment of perianal fistulas in Crohn's disease should be defined on an individual basis. A combined medical and surgical approach is the optimal treatment. Adequate management of perianal fistula disease is based on the presence or absence of active proctitis, anatomic location, and fistula type. Furthermore, the presence of perianal abscesses must be ruled out. This evaluation includes digital rectal examination, endoscopy, and examination under anesthesia combined with pelvic magnetic resonance imaging or anorectal endoscopy ultrasonography findings.

Based on an incidental case of ectopic ureteric orifice in the seminal tract associated with homolateral renal agenesis, the authors demonstrate the value of ultrasonography, particular transrectal, both for diagnosis and follow-up. Digital rectal examination is the key to the diagnosis, combined with ultrasonography and urography. The indications for surgery depend on the clinical symptoms and signs.
