As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, India is recording a very high number of new cases daily; even as the country prepares to gradually "unlock", after months of lockdown. While elective eye surgeries such as uncomplicated cataract surgeries, blepharoplasty and eyelid procedures and refractive surgeries can be planned at a later date; emergency cases pertaining to ocular trauma cannot be deferred. This manuscript gives a brief overview of the general guidelines for the management of ocular trauma during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PURPOSE: Occupational ocular trauma is an important cause of acquired monocular blindness in a rapidly industrialising country like India. Knowledge of the epidemiology of occupational eye injuries is essential to formulate viable industrial safety measures.
METHOD: We retrospectively reviewed all patients with occupational open globe injuries between 1994 and 1998. We documented the circumstances of the injuries, their clinical findings and the use of appropriate protective eyewear at the time of the injury. The visual acuity 6 months after the injury was the final outcome measure.

PURPOSE: To demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of using viscoadaptive viscoelastics in deep lamellar keratoplasty (DLKP) for keratoconus.
METHODS: A nonrandomized, comparative, interventional case series was performed on 12 eyes of 10 consecutive keratoconus patients without a history of acute hydrops. Patients were treated with DLKP using ophthalmic viscosurgical devices (OVDs) to dissociate Descemet membrane (DM) from the stroma before suturing of the donor cornea. Eight eyes were operated using Viscoat (dispersive), and 4 eyes were operated using Healon V (viscoadaptive).

Tanning for cosmetic purposes by sunbathing or by using artificial tanning devices is widespread. The hazards associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation are of concern to the medical profession. Depending on the amount and form of the radiation, as well as on the skin type of the individual exposed, ultraviolet radiation causes erythema, sunburn, photodamage (photoaging), photocarcinogenesis, damage to the eyes, alteration of the immune system of the skin, and chemical hypersensitivity. Skin cancers most commonly produced by ultraviolet radiation are basal and squamous cell carcinomas.
