We describe a technique that uses 25-gauge transconjunctival chandelier endoillumination in combination with a torsional oscillation system for cataract surgery in cases with severe bullous keratopathy. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: As flexible endoscopic examinations of swallowing become more widely used to evaluate patients with oropharyngeal dysphagia, it is important to be aware of research regarding the efficacy of this procedure as compared with the videofluoroscopy procedure. A 5 year-old boy aspirated a metal spring accidentally. The right bronchial foreign body was removed by threading the alligator of a biopsy forceps through the lumen of the spring while opening its jaws distally. This case illustrates that a foreign body with a central lumen in a child can be successfully removed using a flexible bronchoscope, thus obviating the need for general anesthesia and rigid bronchoscopy.

We revised our own experience in 208 patients with pleural effusion to whom fiberoptic bronchoscopy was made in part of the diagnostic study. In our population the most frequent cause was neoplastic origen, observing that in 97 patients (46%), 60 of them were due to bronchogenic carcinoma. A comparative assessment of the efficiency of rigid and flexible endoscopes used for the diagnosis of bladder diseases (cystitis, papilloma, carcinoma in a total of 250 patients) is reported. Cystoscopy made use of a rigid catheter in 101 patients and of a flexible one, in 149. With rigid cystoscope procedure, the diagnosis was correct in 72.2%, doubtful in 13.9%, and erroneous in 13.9%.
