Three long-term (16-29 days) low-level (0.14-0.28 ppm) sulfur dioxide fumigations showed that exposure to this gas has deleterious effects on male sweat bees (Lasioglossum zephrum). Although effects on mortality were equivocal, flight activity was definitely reduced. Because flight is necessary for successful mating behavior, the results suggest that sulfur dioxide air pollution could adversely affect this and doubtless other terrestrial insects.

Plants of two wheat cultivars (Triticum aestivum L., cultivars Mec and Chiarano), differing in sensitivity towards sulfur dioxide, were fumigated with 96 nL L-1 of SO2 for four months. Thylakoid membranes were subjected to two-dimensional electrophoresis in order to detect possible changes in the protein patterns. We found the greatest alterations following treatment in the polypeptide profiles of the most sensitive cultivar, Mec, even if some significant changes were also detected in the plants of the cultivar Chiarano.

Intracerebral abscess are rare in neonates and infants. We present a rare case of 4-month-old immunocompetent infant with multiple intracranial fungal abscess. Right frontoparietal craniotomy was done with excision of multicystic mass containing 200cc of dirty colored fluid. Biopsy and culture of abscess came as Aspergillus fumigates. Patient received parental amphotericin B. An immunocompetent infant with intracranial aspergillosis is rare. We advocate combination of surgical excision with parental amphotericin B as best way to achieve good result.

Zanthoxylum bungeanum essential oil (ZBEO) is a promising botanical insecticide, but its volatility, poor stability, and low water solubility limit practical application. This study developed a ZBEO nanoemulsion (ZBEO-NE) and evaluated its physicochemical properties, insecticidal activity, repellency, stability-related bioactivity retention, and cytotoxicity.
