Gingival recessions are a common disease and one of the most frequently used method for managing them is the tunnel technique (TUN). Although more and more articles are addressing the problem, few are adequately structured, usually without following the standard protocols. Many checklists have been developed for this purpose. Among them, the Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR) checklist is commonly used. Therefore, the present review analyzed trials based on it. The completeness of registration of the trial protocol data was assessed using the TIDieR checklist with r

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of noncarious cervical lesions (NCCLs) and gingival recession (GR) in Guinea-Bissau and investigate their correlation with oral hygiene practices.
METHODS: Six calibrated examiners conducted intraoral examinations on individuals aged 12 years and above. A questionnaire gathered sociodemographic and oral hygiene information. NCCLs were identified through visual inspection of buccal and lingual/palatal tooth surfaces, while GR was assessed exclusively on buccal surfaces. The study adhered to World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for o

The importance of esthetics is increasing for the patients as well as for the dentist. With a high incidence that rises with age and a complicated soft-tissue pathology caused by a wide variety of factors, gingival recessions are a common but troublesome dental problem. They are characterized by the exposure of the root surface of the teeth due to the apical migration of the gingival border beyond the cemento-enamel junction, and they cause both functional and cosmetic disruptions. Many different surgical approaches have been offered over the years to address gingival recession, all with the g

BACKGROUND: Platelet concentrates have gained significant attention in periodontology due to their regenerative properties. This randomized clinical trial was aimed to compare the clinical efficacy of advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) and connective tissue graft (CTG) in the management of recession defects. The objectives were to compare changes in recession height and root coverage percentage between the groups.
METHODS: Systemically healthy individuals presenting Cairo's RT1/RT2 gingival recession defects in the maxilla (n = 40) were treated with either A-PRF or CTG in combination with

BACKGROUND: The inherently technique-sensitive nature of periodontal plastic procedures demands a significant level of skill and expertise. The incorporation of three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies emerges as a potential strategy to optimize and simplify surgical procedures. This case report describes the digital workflow and presents the clinical outcomes achieved using a guided coronally advanced flap for the treatment of a single gingival recession (GR).
METHODS AND RESULTS: A female patient with a gingival recession type 1 (RT1 B-) defect on the mandibular second left premolar und

INTRODUCTION: Gingival recession was treated with gum drop technique (GDT) along with pericardial membrane, advanced platelet rich fibrin (A-PRF) and injectable platelet rich fibrin (i-PRF) in the defect sites for regeneration of soft tissue.
PATIENT CONCERNS: Several 3-4 mm of recession sites in the maxillary right and left canine and premolar region. These sites were selected and divided into two groups: A and B based on the application with A-PRF and pericardium, respectively. Probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL), recession height (RH), recession width (RW) and kerat

BACKGROUND: Gingival recession is a manifestation of the presence of periodontitis and the expression of its characteristics for a long time in the patient's oral cavity. Loss of attachment and its association with gingival recession affect the prosthetic value of the tooth as they significantly change the center of axial rotation of the tooth. The present study aimed to determine the correlation between gingival recession and attachment loss.
METHODS: Data on gingival recession and loss of attachment were collected in two groups of patients. In the first group (n=34), cross-sectional data we

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine orthodontists', periodontists', and laypersons' perception of smile esthetics, regarding the presence of different levels of gingival recession on the maxillary left canine.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two close-up smile images (frontal and oblique) of a white female were selected for this study. The images were digitally altered to create different levels of gingival recession on maxillary left canine, in 0.5-mm increments. They were randomly arranged into a photo album that was shown to 135 evaluators: 45 orthodontists, 45 periodontists, and

BACKGROUND: An apical shift in the position of the gingiva beyond the cemento-enamel junction leads to gingival recession. This study aimed to evaluate the reproducibility of digital measurements of gingival recession when compared to conventional measurements taken clinically using periodontal probes.
METHODS: Gingival recession was measured at 97 sites in the oral cavity by four examiners using the following methods: CP, direct measurement of gingival recession using William's periodontal probe intraorally; CC, measurements on cast models using a caliper; DP, digital measurement on virtual

Zygomatic implants can be used for dental rehabilitation in atrophic maxillae. This allows for maxillary grafts to be avoided while also permitting immediate functional use. Initially, the implants had a palatal emergence. The surgical technique has undergone continuous development and the implants are now sometimes extra-maxillary in order to better match with the prosthetic space. The main risk is vestibular exposure of the implant as a gingival recession caused by mucositis or peri-implantitis. When the first patients exhibited this problem, the authors sought a solution in order to prevent

OBJECTIVE: Gingival recession (GR) is a common manifestation in most populations, and is considered as an early sign of periodontal disease. GR is an intriguing condition where various factors play an important role in its etiology. Only few studies have been undertaken to assess the prevalence and risk factors for GR in patients visiting dental hospitals. The aim of this study is not only to estimate prevalence, severity, and extent of GR in hospital population, of Vishnu Dental College, Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, India, but also to assess the potential risk factors for the same.

This paper is the third in a three part series looking at the aetiology and management of gingival recession. Part 1 in this series discussed the aetiology of gingival recession and the non-surgical management. Part 2 discussed in detail the factors affecting the outcome of periodontal surgery and the use of pedicle flaps. This paper aims to discuss the surgical options available to correct localised recession defects using free grafts and guided tissue regeneration.
