The antiviral effects of 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine (L-DON) on the replication of human parainfluenza virus type 2 (HPIV-2), mumps and vesicular stomatitis viruses were studied. L-DON suppressed growth of these viruses and, in particular, HPIV-2 in four cell types. Sixty patients with gynecologic cancer entered a prospective, randomized study of immediate postoperative feeding. Thirty-three women in the study group received an elemental diet (Vivonex HN) delivered through a needle catheter jejunostomy. We have studied the structural components of human parainfluenza virus type 4A (PIV-4A) and identified some virus-specific polypeptides by immunoprecipitation with polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies followed by one- or two-dimensional SDS-PAGE. HN polypeptides existed as monomer, disulfide-linked dimer, and disulfide-linked larger oligomer in cells infected with PIV-4A. Interestingly, the nonreduced NP, the nonreduced fusion, and the reduced F1 proteins migrated as doublets. Two F1 polypeptides were derived from different F1 + 2 proteins which migrated separately under nonreducing condition.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze genetic characterization of the small hydrophobic and hemagglutinin-neuraminidase genes of mumps virus (MuV) isolated in Yunnan province, China from 2007 to 2009.
METHODS: Fourteen MuV strains were isolated in Yunnan, China from 2007 to 2009. Using RT-PCR, the SH gene fragments contained 316 nucleotides in all strains and HN gene of six strains were sequenced. The sequences were aligned with other mumps virus sequences downloaded from GenBank using Mega 4.1 software.

Previously, our study has demonstrated that porcine pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PPMVECs) were susceptible to highly pathogenic porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (HP-PRRSV) and produced a significant non-specific immune response to it. The significance of microvascular endothelial glycocalyx is increasingly attracting attention, and its rich carbohydrate components are not only important signaling molecules, but also remarkably influence the signaling of most proteins.
