Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) is an emerging "superbug" whose infections have become extremely difficult to treat due to its diverse antimicrobial resistance mechanisms and resistance to last-resort antibiotics including carbapenems. Despite this, data on genetic determinants and genomic context of carbapenemase genes in A. baumannii are scarce in Ghana. This study investigated the genetic determinants of carbapenem resistance in clinical isolates of A. baumannii (Ab) and explored the genetic contexts of carbapenemase-encoding genes in extensively drug-resistant A. baumannii (XDR-Ab).

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a major opportunistic pathogen responsible for a wide range of hospital-acquired infections such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections, bloodstream infections, and septicemia. The increasing occurrence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and carbapenem-resistant strains has led to the reintroduction of colistin as an antibiotic of last resort used to treat severe infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria. However, the emergence of colistin resistance has emerged as a significant global public health concern, particularly in tertiary-care hospital settings, as it restricts

The emergence of aztreonam-avibactam resistance among NDM-producing Escherichia coli represents a major therapeutic and infection control concern. Four cases of aztreonam-avibactam-resistant (AZAR) NDM-producing E. coli, recovered from three blood cultures and one rectal surveillance culture in a hospital of Paris, prompted an investigation based on whole-genome sequencing. The three isolates responsible for bloodstream infection, which were clonally related, belonged to the ST405 and produced NDM-5, DHA-1, CTX-M-15, and TEM-1 β-lactamases. They also had a penicillin-binding protein 3 (PBP3) m

Acinetobacter baumannii is an opportunistic pathogen associated with healthcare-acquired infections. This study examined the clonal relatedness and drug resistance of 38 clinical isolates of A. baumannii from three hospitals in Poland and five isolates from pig manure. PFGE analysis identified seven clusters (A-G); of these, clusters A and B comprised the majority of clinical isolates, while A and C were dominated by the pig manure isolates, and cluster C included the reference strain ATCC 17978. MLST analysis of the clinical isolates revealed nine sequence types (STs), including three previou

Bacteria with similar genomes can exhibit different phenotypes due to alternative gene expression patterns. In this study, we analysed four antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus hospital isolates using transcriptomics, PacBio genome sequencing, and methylomics analyses. Transcriptomic data were obtained from cultures exposed to gentamicin, the iodine-alanine complex CC-196, and their combination. We observed strain-specific expression patterns of core and accessory genes that remained stable under antimicrobial stress - a phenomenon we term the Clonal Gene Expression Stability (CGES) that
