Automated Multimodal Image Registration for Prostate Cancer Using Squeeze-and-Excitation ResNet with Thin Plate Spline Transformation: A Deep Learning Approach.

BACKGROUND Accurate spatial correlation between preoperative prostate MRI and post-prostatectomy histopathology is critical for improving prostate cancer diagnosis, treatment planning, and MRI interpretation. Current manual registration methods are time-consuming and subjective, creating a need for robust, automated solutions. MATERIAL AND METHODS We developed an unsupervised deep learning model, Squeeze-and-Excitation ResNet with Thin-Plate Spline Transformation (SE-ResNet-TPS), for deformable registration of in vivo prostate MRI and ex vivo whole-mount histopathology images. The model learns

A Novel Tet-LDN Based Feature Extraction and Parallel Convolutional LeNet for Breast Cancer Detection and Classification Using Histopathological Images.

One of the main reasons for the high death rate in today's world is Breast Cancer (BC), which affects women all over the world. This work proposes a novel Parallel Convolutional-LeNet (PConv-LeNet) technique for BC detection and classification employing Histopathological images. Originally, the input histopathological image is obtained from a particular dataset, and image denoising is performed to remove the noise in the images using the Medav Filter. After image denoising, blood cell segmentation is carried out using the Parallel Reverse Attention Network (PraNet). Afterwards, feature extract

Segment anything in pathology images with natural language.

Segmenting tissues and cells in pathology images enables quantitative analysis but usually requires task-specific models or repeated spatial prompts. Here we show PathSegmentor, a foundation model that uses natural language descriptions to segment structures across anatomical regions and spatial scales. We assembled PathSeg from 21 public datasets, comprising 275,200 image-mask-label triples organized into a 3-level hierarchy of anatomical region, histological structure and object type. A single PathSegmentor model achieved the highest overall performance across 16 internal datasets and genera

A segmentation-guided CNN-Vision transformer feature fusion framework for multi-class breast ultrasound image classification.

Breast ultrasound (BU) imaging is widely used for detecting breast abnormalities because it is cost-effective, non-invasive, and suitable for dense breast tissue. However, multi-class classification of BU images is considered a challenging task due to low contrast, speckle noise, and overlapping visual patterns between benign and malignant tumours. To address this issue, we develop a segmentation-guided CNN and Vision Transformer based feature fusion framework for efficient multi-class BU image classification. The framework first applies a lesion segmentation model to identify the region of in

A generalised vision transformer-based self-supervised model for diagnosing and grading prostate cancer using histological images.

BACKGROUND: Gleason grading remains the gold standard for prostate cancer histological classification and prognosis, yet its subjectivity leads to grade variability between pathologists, potentially impacting clinical decision-making. Herein, we trained and validated a generalised AI-driven system for diagnosing prostate cancer using diverse datasets from tissue microarray (TMA) core and whole slide images (WSIs) with Haematoxylin and Eosin staining. METHODS: We analysed eight prostate cancer datasets, which included 12,711 histological images from 3648 patients, incorporating TMA core images

Automatic detection of abnormalities in mammograms.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, an increased interest has been seen in the area of medical image processing and, as a consequence, Computer Aided Diagnostic (CAD) systems. The basic purpose of CAD systems is to assist doctors in the process of diagnosis. CAD systems, however, are quite expensive, especially, in most of the developing countries. Our focus is on developing a low-cost CAD system. Today, most of the CAD systems regarding mammogram classification target automatic detection of calcification and abnormal mass. Calcification normally indicates an early symptom of breast cancer if it appe

Segment anything model-based segmentation with inception-ResNet-v2 classifier for Parkinson's disease diagnosis and metaverse visualization.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurological condition that distresses brain cells and can severely impact a person's healthy life. Accurate diagnosis of PD is vital for early intervention. However, many existing works commonly use Voxel-Based Morphometry for brain analysis, which requires rigid preprocessing steps such as spatial normalization and template alignment that introduce biases and limit flexibility in segmenting complex or irregular brain structures. The study aims to improve PD prediction by addressing the limitation of the VBM technique by introducing the advanced automated segment

Advances in disease detection through retinal imaging: A systematic review.

Ocular and non-ocular diseases significantly impact millions of people worldwide, leading to vision impairment or blindness if not detected and managed early. Many individuals could be prevented from becoming blind by treating these diseases early on and stopping their progression. Despite advances in medical imaging and diagnostic tools, the manual detection of these diseases remains labor-intensive, time-consuming, and dependent on the expert's experience. Computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) has been transformed by machine learning (ML), providing promising methods for the automated detection and

A new feature extraction framework based on wavelets for breast cancer diagnosis.

This paper investigates a pattern recognition framework in order to determine and classify breast cancer cases. Initially, a two-class separation study classifying normal and abnormal (cancerous) breast tissues is achieved. The Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG), Dense Scale Invariant Feature Transform (DSIFT), and Local Configuration Pattern (LCP) methods are used to extract the rotation- and scale-invariant features for all tissue patches. A classification is made utilizing Support Vector Machine (SVM), k-Nearest Neighborhood (k-NN), Decision Tree, and Fisher Linear Discriminant Analysis

High-quality FLORET UTE imaging for clinical translation.

PURPOSE: To develop a robust 3D ultrashort-TE (UTE) protocol that can reproducibly provide high-quality images, assessed by the ability to yield clinically diagnostic images, and is suitable for clinical translation. THEORY AND METHODS: Building on previous work, a UTE sampled with Fermat looped orthogonally encoded trajectories (FLORET) was chosen as a starting point due to its shorter, clinically reasonable scan times. Modifications to previous FLORET implementations included gradient waveform frequency limitations, a new trajectory ordering scheme, a balanced SSFP implementation, fast grad

Adversarial attacks on a multimodal Alzheimer's disease detection system reveal complex interdependences between heterogeneous modalities.

Multi-modal models that fuse neuroimaging with clinical assessment data represent the current state of the art for automated Alzheimer's disease detection, yet their adversarial robustness remains poorly understood. We systematically investigated adversarial vulnerability in CogniNetMM, a model that fuses 3D structural MRI volumes with neuropsychological clinical variables (CV), using the Fast Gradient Sign Method and DeepFool in three modality configurations: MRI only, CVs only, and both jointly. We further introduced a mean attack framework, in which the average perturbation vector across sa

Comparison of Amplitude- and Amplitude-Frequency-Modulated Pulses for Outer Volume Suppression in Cardiac MRI: Application to Myocardial T 2 Mapping.

PURPOSE: To evaluate single- and dual-band pulse modules for suppressing extra-cardiac signal in cardiac MRI, and test their applicability for time-efficient imaging with reduced FOV in myocardial T 2 mapping at 3 T. METHODS: Outer Volume Suppression (OVS) was implemented using two regional saturation slabs, along the phase-encoding direction. Different Amplitude-Modulated (AM) and Amplitude-Frequency-Modulated (AM-FM) pulses were explored. AM sinc and AM-FM Hyperbolic Secant (HS) pulses, as single- (S:1b and HS:1b) and dual-band (S:2b and HS:2b) versions, were chosen for full evaluation.

Evaluating the relationship between objective and subjective image quality in computed tomography using detectability index and three-dimensional-printed phantoms.

Achieving optimal image quality in computed tomography (CT) is essential for accurate diagnosis. This study explores the relationship between objective and subjective image quality, using the detectability index ($d^{\prime}$) as a quantitative performance metric. A 3D-printed anthropomorphic abdominal phantom was used to assess how variations in tube voltage, current, slice thickness, and reconstruction kernel affect image quality. Signal-to-noise ratio, contrast-to-noise ratio, and edge sharpness were evaluated alongside radiologist assessments. A strong correlation between $d^{\prime}$ and

Accurate and real-time brain tumour detection and classification using optimized YOLOv5 architecture.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

The brain tumours originate in the brain or its surrounding structures, such as the pituitary and pineal glands, and can be benign or malignant. While benign tumours may grow into neighbouring tissues, metastatic tumours occur when cancer from other organs spreads to the brain. This is because identification and staging of such tumours are critical because basically all aspects involving a patient's disease entail accurate diagnosis as well as the staging of the tumour. Image segmentation is incredibly valuable to medical imaging since it can make possible to simulate surgical operations, dise

Artificial Intelligence in Pancreatic Image Analysis: A Review.

Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal disease with a poor prognosis. Its early diagnosis and accurate treatment mainly rely on medical imaging, so accurate medical image analysis is especially vital for pancreatic cancer patients. However, medical image analysis of pancreatic cancer is facing challenges due to ambiguous symptoms, high misdiagnosis rates, and significant financial costs. Artificial intelligence (AI) offers a promising solution by relieving medical personnel's workload, improving clinical decision-making, and reducing patient costs. This study focuses on AI applications such as s

Visibility of alveolar bone thicknesses on CBCT images-a study on minimum bone requirements using various reconstruction techniques, viewing modes, and resolutions.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate at which thickness marginal bone becomes visible to the observer on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images and how reconstruction technique and viewing mode affect assessment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fourteen anterior teeth from six human mandibles were examined with two CBCT resolution protocols: standard- and high-resolution. Distance from the cementoenamel junction to the visible marginal bone level (MBL) was measured in three groups of reconstructed CBCT images: multiplanar reformation (MPR) with grey scale, MPR with inverted grey scale, and 3D rendering. Hard exudates segmentation for retinal fundus images based on longitudinal multi-scale fusion network.

Accurate segmentation of hard exudate in fundus images is crucial for early diagnosis of retinal diseases. However, hard exudate segmentation is still a challenge task for accurately detecting small lesions and precisely locating the boundaries of ambiguous lesions. In this paper, the longitudinal multi-scale fusion network (LMSF-Net) is proposed for accurate hard exudate segmentation in fundus images. In this network, an adjacent complementary correction module (ACCM) is proposed on the encoding path for complementary fusion between adjacent encoding features, and a progressive iterative fusi

Automated segmentation of hyperreflective foci in OCT images for diabetic retinopathy using deep convolutional networks.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is being investigated in diabetic retinopathy (DR) diagnostics as a real-time evaluation tool. Currently, OCT images are the main methods for the diagnosis of patients with DR. Hyperreflective foci (HRF) are potential biomarkers for the diagnosis and prediction of the progression and prognosis of patients with DR. The development of artificial intelligence (AI) models for segmenting HRF is of great significance for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with DR. The purpose of this study is to construct a deep-learning algorithm that automatically s
