Pocket-Oriented Design of Benzene-Fused Pyridinecarboxylates as Potent Synthetic Auxin Herbicides.

Synthetic auxin herbicides (SAHs) with pyridinecarboxylate scaffolds are valued for their high efficacy and favorable safety, yet their limited structural diversity has constrained further development. In this study, we analyzed sequence variations in TIR1/AFBs among different species and employed a pocket-oriented molecular design strategy to synthesize pyridinecarboxylate derivatives bearing novel benzene-fused six-membered ring frameworks. Through systematic structural optimization, we identified compound 8o, which showed outstanding herbicidal activity against many weeds at 3.75 g ai/ha an

Assessment of Phenolic and Indolic Compounds Removal from Aqueous Media Using Lignocellulose-Derived Surface-Modified Nanoporous Carbon Adsorbents: A Comparative Study.

P-cresol, indole and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) are catabolites of amino acids, formed by the gut microbiome. Most of these aromatic hydrocarbon derivatives are excreted by the colon before reentering the body to form "exogenous" protein-bound uremic toxins (PBUTs), which aggravate chronic kidney disease (CKD). Removal efficiencies of these PBUT precursors from model phosphate-buffered saline solutions by three different surface-modified nanoporous carbon adsorbents (PCs) were studied. PCs were produced by physicochemical and/or acid base activation of carbonized rice husk waste. Removal rates

Biosynthesis of auxin and other plant growth-promoting traits from novel endophyte Fusarium incarnatum SELC2 and its in vitro plant growth-promoting efficacy on rice (Oryza sativa L.).

Endophytic fungi in symbiotic relationships with their host plants are recognized for promoting plant growth and mitigating the detrimental impacts of both abiotic and biotic challenges. However, due to limited knowledge of plant growth-promoting microorganisms coupled with Pteridophytes, the objective of this investigation was to identify and characterize the fungal endophytes from Selaginella ciliaris (Retz.) Spring. The endophytic fungus Fusarium incarnatum SELC2 was isolated and identified via the 18S rDNA sequencing. The isolates exhibited phosphate solubilization, ammonia production, and

Comprehensive characterisation of IAA inactivation pathways reveals the impact of glycosylation on auxin metabolism and plant development in Arabidopsis.

Alongside biosynthesis and transport, inactivation regulates indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) concentration, a compound with numerous functions in plant development. The main inactive IAA metabolites are oxidised forms and ester- or amide-linked conjugates. DIOXYGENASE FOR AUXIN OXIDATION1 (DAO1) and DAO2, 2-oxoglutarate and iron-dependent dioxygenases, contribute to IAA oxidative inactivation with group II GRETCHEN HAGEN3 (GH3) IAA-amido synthetases, while UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGTs) conjugate IAA to sugars. To study IAA inactivation routes, we generated combinatorial Arabidopsis mutants betwee

The PtARF6/PtARF8-PtGH3.1 transcriptional module regulates auxin homeostasis and dwarfism in citrus.

Dwarfing rootstocks are crucial for high-density and labor-efficient citrus cultivation, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying plant height regulation remain poorly understood. Using an integrated multiomics analysis of dwarf and normal-height red tangerine (Citrus reticulata) × trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata) hybrid seedlings, we identified the Gretchen Hagen 3.1 gene PtGH3.1, an auxin-conjugating enzyme, as an important regulator of dwarfism. Compared with normal-height hybrid seedlings, PtGH3.1 was significantly upregulated in the shoot tips of dwarf hybrid seedlings, correlating

Study on the cutting technology of chayote (Sechium edule) and the physiological mechanism of rooting regulation by exogenous hormones.

BACKGROUND: 'Tuershao' is a new chayote (Sechium edule) variety whose tuberous roots and tender shoots are edible. These parts are rich in beneficial substances, including amino acids, proteins, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, cucurbitacin, and selenium, demonstrating their unique value. However, its ovary cannot develop into a mature fruit, and cutting techniques help to achieve the breeding of 'Tuershao'. RESULTS: This study found that using peat soil as the substrate and treating semi-hard branches with 1.0 g·L⁻¹ indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) achieved the highest rooting rate of 94.33%, with

Indole-3-Butyric Acid, a Natural Auxin, Protects against Fenton Reaction-Induced Oxidative Damage in Porcine Thyroid.

We present results on the potential protective antioxidant properties of indole-3-butyric acid. Indole-3-butyric acid is an indole derivative defined as an auxin and widely known as a plant growth regulator. It naturally occurs in Arabidopsis thaliana, which is applied as a model plant in genetic studies. Oxidative damage to membrane lipids (lipid peroxidation; LPO) in porcine thyroid homogenates was induced by Fenton reaction substrates (Fe2+ + H2O2). Iron (Fe2+) was used in very high concentrations of 1200, 600, 300, 150, 75, 37.5, 18.75, 9.375, 4.687, and 2.343 µM. Indole-3-butyric acid (10

Ultra-low concentration of chlorine dioxide regulates stress-caused premature leaf senescence in tobacco by modulating auxin, ethylene, and chlorophyll biosynthesis.

Exploring novel growth regulators for premature senescence regulation is important for tobacco production. In the present study, chlorine dioxide (ClO2) was explored as a novel plant growth regulator for tobacco growth, particularly its effect on leaf senescence and root development. The results showed that 0.15 μM ClO2 maintained the lushness of detached leaves and whole plants. Also, the leaves of ClO2-treated plants exhibited a chlorophyll content of 58% higher than in CK (control) plants (P < 0.05). Besides, ClO2 treatment increased the biomass of roots and aboveground parts by 54 and 16%,

Indole-3-acetic acid correlates with monocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein (HDL) ratio (MHR) in chronic kidney disease patients.

PURPOSE: Indole-3-acetic acid is a protein-bound indolic uremic toxin deriving from tryptophan metabolism. Increased levels are associated with higher thrombotic risk and both cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. An emerging biomarker of cardiovascular disease is the monocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein ratio (MHR). The main purpose of this study was to investigate the association of indole-3-acetic acid with MHR and other markers of cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). METHODS: We enrolled 61 non-dialysis CKD patients and 6 dialysis patients. Indole-3-acetic

Seminal and Nodal Roots of Barley Differ in Anatomy, Proteome and Nitrate Uptake Capacity.

The root system of barley plants is composed of embryogenic, seminal roots as well as lateral and nodal roots that are formed postembryonically from seminal roots and from the basal part of shoots, respectively. Due to their distinct developmental origin, seminal and nodal roots may differ in function during plant development; however, a clear comparison between these two root types has not yet been undertaken. In this study, anatomical, proteomic and physiological traits were compared between seminal and nodal roots of similar developmental stages. Nodal roots have larger diameter, larger met

Auxin Acts Downstream of Ethylene and Nitric Oxide to Regulate Magnesium Deficiency-Induced Root Hair Development in Arabidopsis thaliana.

This study examines the association of auxin with ethylene and nitric oxide (NO) in regulating the magnesium (Mg) deficiency-induced root hair development in Arabidopsis thaliana. With Mg deficiency, both ethylene and NO promoted the elevation of root auxin levels in roots by inducing the expression of AUXIN-RESISTANT1 (AUX1), PIN-FORMED 1 (PIN1) and PIN2 transporters. In turn, auxin stimulated ethylene and NO production by activating the activities of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) oxidase (ACO), ACC synthase (ACS), nitrate reductase (NR) and NO synthase-like (NOS-L). These processes

Neuroprotective Effects of Paeonia lactiflora Through the Regulation of Gut Dubosiella in an MPTP-Induced Parkinson's Disease Mouse Model.

Emerging evidence suggests that changes in the composition of the gut microbiota may play an important role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Paeonia lactiflora Pall., a traditional Chinese medicinal herb belonging to the genus Paeonia, is commonly used in Chinese medicinal practice for the treatment of PD. However, the specific mechanisms of its action remain poorly understood. This study aimed to further determine the neuroprotective properties of Paeonia lactiflora Pall. water extract (PWE) in a 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced PD model, and to inve

The kynurenine pathway regulated by intestinal innate lymphoid cells mediates postoperative cognitive dysfunction.

Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a prevalent neurological complication that can impair learning and memory for days, months, or even years after anesthesia/surgery. POCD is strongly associated with an altered composition of the gut microbiota (dysbiosis), but the accompanying metabolic changes and their role in gut-brain communication and POCD pathogenesis remain unclear. Here, the present study reports that anesthesia/surgery in aged mice induces elevated intestinal indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) expression and activity, which shifts intestinal tryptophan (TRP) metabolism towa

Ground-based studies with Super-Dwarf wheat in preparation for space flight.

Several experiments were carried out to test responses of a Super-Dwarf cultivar of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to various environmental parameters that were anticipated to be present in our attempts to grow the wheat in a small growth chamber on the Russian Space Station, Mir, or that proved to be present in a 1995 trial space experiment. Under low photosynthetic photon flux (40-400 micromoles m-2 s-1 PPF), development (e.g. anthesis) was retarded, but heads (often sterile) always formed, even if light was so low that plants died before the heads could mature. Longer photoperiods promoted fl
