Neonatal sepsis is associated with increased mortality and morbidity including prolonged hospital stay. Management of such cases is difficult, costly and need expert centers in many cases. Therefore, continued surveillance is mandatory to identify risk factors of neonatal sepsis which help optimizing its management. With the above idea, this cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in the department of Neonatology, Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), Mymensingh, Bangladesh from July 2017 to December 2017 to observe the effects of matern

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) aggregate service and outcome descriptions focus on high-illness-acuity neonates. We sought to describe the high-level landscape of lower-acuity inborn NICU admissions (LAINAs).
METHODS: This cross-sectional study of a nearly three-quarters population sample from 2022 describes 120 California hospitals with inborn NICU admissions. Binary illness acuity stratification was based on high-acuity criteria-admission within 28 days of birth and either birthweight of 1500 g or less, gestation of 31 weeks 6 days or less, or more than 1500

While patent ductus arteriosus, pulmonary hypertension, and systemic hypotension are key medical issues amongst neonates, there are other common biological conditions which present with distinct physiological diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. This review focuses on such hemodynamic considerations in cardiomyopathy accompanying infants of diabetic mothers, twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, and left heart pathology in infants with severe chronic lung disease. It details the pathophysiological mechanisms, diagnostic approaches, and therapeutic strategies essential for optimizing cardiovascu

Life-space mobility (LSM) is a concept for assessing patterns of functional mobility over time. LSM is gaining traction in the research of geriatric population health. Several instruments have been developed to measure LSM, such as the University of Alabama at Birmingham Life-Space Assessment (LSA) or the Nursing Home Life-Space Diameter instrument. There has been exponential growth in the use of instruments measuring LSM in studies of older adults since the concept was introduced in 1985. In response to the increased volume of publications with clinical applicability to those working in geria

Respiratory disease is common in premature and sick newborn infants and can often necessitate the initiation of intensive care. Newborn infants often suffer from conditions that are associated with decreased lung volumes that occur as a result of abnormal or incomplete lung development. Such conditions are prematurity and respiratory distress syndrome, preterm premature rupture of membranes and the ensuing pulmonary hypoplasia and congenital lung anomalies such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia. These diseases have a structural component manifesting with lower lung volumes and a functional co

AIM: Circular DNA segments TREC (T-cell receptor excision circles) formed during T-lymphocyte maturation in the thymus, are a sensitive marker of thymic lymphocyte production in a broader manner. Quantification using qPCR is proposed as a surrogate marker of T cell malfunction in various primary and secondary conditions in a non-SCID selected risk newborn population.
METHODS: We collected 207 dry blood spot samples during the years 2015-2018, from newly admitted risk newborns. TREC values calculated per 106 cells were determined and a cut-off values of 5th percentile was set. The positive con
