Exposure to morally injurious events may have a severe, prolonged negative impact on psychosocial functioning, known as moral injury (MI). Research into the prevalence of MI has mostly focused on event exposure rather than on psychosocial impact. Also, the relationship between MI and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) remains a matter of interest. The aim of this study was to identify MI and PTSD symptom profiles among trauma-exposed, treatment-seeking police officers and military veterans, and to explore demographic and clinical differences between symptom profiles. Latent class and multin

Birth-related posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) place a significant burden on mothers and their families. The aim was to (1) identify differential profiles of maternal birth-related PTSS; (2) determine the predictive value of established risk factors; (3) examine comorbidity patterns related to depression and anxiety symptoms. As part of the Norwegian Ahus Birth Cohort, 2,088 (expectant) mothers completed self-report questionnaires from 17 weeks of gestation to 2 years postpartum. The Impact of Event Scale was used to assess PTSS 8 weeks after birth. Latent class analysis revealed four late

The state of Georgia ranks first in the rate of new diagnosis of HIV/AIDS, yet studies focused on understanding the drivers of this epidemic in the most at-risk groups outside the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) remain sparse. Among the many consequences of this is the inability to effectively design tailored intervention programs that appropriately address the reduction of HIV/AIDS and other STDS in the state. Reducing disparities in HIV/AIDS remains an important goal in the National HIV/AIDS Strategy. Given the disproportionate burden of the HIV/AIDS epidemic among Blacks in the

Host tissues affected by Leishmania infantum have differing degrees of parasitism. Previously, the use of different biological tissues to detect L. infantum DNA in dogs has provided variable results. The present study was conducted to evaluate the accuracy of molecular diagnostic testing (qPCR) in dogs from an endemic area for canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) by determining which tissue type provided the highest rate of parasite DNA detection. Fifty-one symptomatic dogs were tested for CVL using serological, parasitological and molecular methods. Latent class analysis (LCA) was performed fo

BACKGROUND: To advance asthma cohort research, we need a method that can use longitudinal data, including when collected at irregular intervals, to model multiple phenotypes of wheeze and identify both time-invariant (eg, sex) and time-varying (eg, environmental exposure) risk factors.
OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the use of latent class growth analysis (LCGA) in defining phenotypes of wheeze and examining the effects of causative factors, using repeated questionnaires in an urban birth cohort study.
METHODS: We gathered repeat questionnaire data on wheeze from 689 children ages 3 through 108 m

No reports have yet been published on catatonia using latent class analysis (LCA). This study applied LCA to a large, diagnostically homogenous sample of patients with chronic schizophrenia who also presented with catatonic symptoms. A random sample of 225 Chinese inpatients with DSM-IV schizophrenia was selected from the long-stay wards of a psychiatric hospital. Their psychopathology, extrapyramidal motor status and level of functioning were evaluated with standardized rating scales. Catatonia was rated using a modified version of the Bush-Francis Catatonia Rating Scale. LCA was then applied

Serological methods are traditionally used in diagnosis of brucellosis. However, the comparative performance of these tests and their accuracy under the local environment in Zambia has not been assessed. Thus, the objective of our study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of three serological tests for brucellosis; Rose Bengal Test (RBT), competitive ELISA (c-ELISA) and Fluorescence Polarisation Assay (FPA) in naturally infected cattle in Zambia without an appropriate reference test to classify animals into truly infected and non-infected. Serological test results from a study to determ

INTRODUCTION: Current diagnostic classifications in psychiatry show symptomatic overlap, and considerable symptom diversity in diagnosed individuals. Data-driven clustering techniques may help to clarify this complexity. In a psychiatric transdiagnostic population we aimed to 1) identify transdiagnostic latent classes of psychosocial functioning, and 2) examine whether the classes are differently associated with mental healthcare utilization and functioning at one year follow-up.
METHODS: Routine healthcare records of 9062 patients (55.8 % female, mean age 38.4 years (sd = 13.4)) from four Du

UNLABELLED: : First-year college students are at particular risk for experiencing negative alcohol-related consequences that may set the stage for experiencing such consequences in later life. Latent class analysis is a person-centered approach that, based on observable indicator variables, divides a population into mutually exclusive and exhaustive groups ('classes'). To date, no studies have examined the latent class structure of negative alcohol-related consequences experienced by first-year college students just before entering college.
AIMS: The aims of this study were to (a) identify cl

BACKGROUND: Relatively strong theoretical assumptions and previous studies concerning co-occurring addictive behaviors suggest a subpopulation representing general proclivity to behavioral addictions (BAs), and there are gender-specific subpopulations. This study aimed to compare latent profile analysis (LPA) and latent class analysis (LCA) as the methods of investigating different clusters of BAs in the general student population and among students positively screened for at least one BA. Participants and procedure: Analyses of six BAs (study, shopping, gaming, Facebook, pornography, and food

Background and Purpose: Older adults are more susceptible to the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) due to age-related changes in insulin secretion and signaling pathways. Given the multifactorial nature of metabolic disorders, the use of robust multivariate models is justified to explore associated risk factors. This study aimed to identify latent classes of metabolic profiles among older adults based on a cluster of variables associated with cardiovascular risk. Methods: The study included community-dwelling individuals aged 60 years or older residing in urban areas who participa

BACKGROUND: We aimed to identify data-driven FEV1 trajectory phenotypes post-chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD), relate these phenotypes to patient factors and future graft loss, and develop a classification approach for prospective patients.
METHODS: We studied adult first lung recipients with probable CLAD from two prospective multicenter cohorts: CTOT-20 (n=206) and LTOG (n=1418). FEV1 trajectories over the first nine months post-CLAD were characterized using joint latent class mixed models, jointly modelling time-to-graft loss to account for informative censoring. Health behaviors (HB) are critical for university students, as they are closely associated with academic and overall well-being. This cross-sectional study aimed to explore health behaviors in a sample of university students, identify patterns of HB, and examine the association between these patterns and mental health outcomes. The sample consisted of 1085 university students enrolled at a private higher-education institution. Participants were predominantly female (83.4%), with a mean age of 22.74 years (SD = 7.03). Latent Class Analysis (LCA) was employed to identify distinct classes of HB.

Teledildonics are internet-connected sex toys enabling remote and interactive sexual experiences. Despite growing adoption, factors driving engagement with teledildonics remain underexplored. Clarifying how user motivations intersect to form distinct profiles is crucial for advancing theoretical models of sexual behavior and technology adoption. This study draws on a secondary analysis of cross-sectional survey data from customers of one teledildonics company. Using latent class analysis, we identified motivational patterns among male users (N = 569) across five indicators (arousal enhancement
