Transport of oral nanocarriers across the GI epithelium necessitates transport across hydrophilic mucus layer and the hydrophobic epithelium. Based on hydrophobic-hydrophilic balance, Curcumin-Lipomer (lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles) comprising hydrophobic stearic acid and hydrophilic Gantrez™ AN 119 (Gantrez) were developed, by a radical in-situ approach, to successfully traverse both barriers. A monophasic preconcentrate (Cur-Pre) comprising Cur (Curcumin), stearic acid, Gantrez and stabilizers, prepared by simple solution, was added to an aqueous phase to instantaneously generate Curcum

Quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QD-LEDs) require encapsulation to extend their storage and operational lifetime. However, acidic encapsulants commonly used usually induce an anomalous positive aging phenomenon─the device performance improves rather than decreases in the initial days. These uncontrollable gains hinder the commercialization of QD-LEDs, yet no study to date has directly probed the in situ evolution of charge carriers during this process. Here, we employ electrically excited transient absorption (EETA) spectroscopy to investigate how encapsulants influence charge carrier dynami

Nitric oxide (NO) releasing coating is promising for implantable medical devices due to the role of NO in the vascular system. In the study, a multilayered NO-releasing coating was constructed via layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly to improve the hemocompatibility of poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET). A keratin-based NO donor (KSNO) was synthesized and used as a negatively-charged monolayer. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) acted as a positively-charged monolayer. The LBL coating has an adjusted KSNO payload capacity, achieving a tunable NO release in the presence of ascorbic acid (Asc). The coated PET

Inflammatory skin disorders (ISDs), characterized by severe inflammation and impaired skin barrier functions, often requires persistent treatment due to chronic and relapsing natures. To address these issues, we developed a small-molecular self-assembled nanodrug (ECN) that is composed of natural epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) self-assembled with tripeptide collagen (CTP). By formulating a transdermal enhancer (cationic dendrimer) with ECN, the resulted dendrimers/ECN nanocomplex (DECN) can effectively penetrate into the skin layer, resulting in effective anti-inflammatory response and repa

Low-density tin dioxide (SnO2) is required for radiating monochromatic extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light with low debris and high conversion efficiency from a laser. In this paper, tin dioxide nanoparticle hollow microcapsules were successfully fabricated by a layer-by-layer template technique. The obtained capsules have a rougher surface (30 nm in rms) compared to the freshly prepared polyelectrolyte capsules. Based on the X-ray diffraction (XRD) results, the tin dioxide nanoparticles well maintained their size after they were assembled on the capsules' surfaces. In order to remove the polymer

Owing to their potential to transform traditional medical diagnostics and health monitoring, wearable biosensors have become an alternative evolutionary technology in the field of medical care. However, it is still necessary to overcome some key technique challenges, such as the selectivity, sensitivity, and stability of biometric identification. Herein, a novel, wearable electrochemical sensor based on a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) integrated with a copper benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate metal-organic framework (MOF) was designed for the detection of stress through the on-body monitoring

UNLABELLED: Natural amino acids are zwitterionic molecules and the good biocompatibility promises them potential candidates as anti-fouling materials. Here, we developed a new method to functionalize silica nanoparticles with a natural amino acid-based anti-fouling layer. Amino acids were covalently immobilized on 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane modified silica nanoparticles using divinyl sulfone through a two-step reaction in aqueous solution at room temperature. The progress was monitored with NMR, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and zeta potential

Conventional passive radiative coolers suffer from two fundamental limitations: overcooling in cold environments and drastically reduced efficiency under cloudy or rainy conditions. Here, we overcome these challenges by developing a multifunctional flexible superhydrophobic film (AFSF) that synergistically integrates radiative cooling, anti‑icing, and droplet‑based energy harvesting within a single, durable platform. Fabricated via template replication and layer-by-layer spin-coating, the film features a hierarchical micro-/nanostructured surface that endows exceptional superhydrophobicity (wa

In this study, the self-assembly mechanism of Zein/(-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate/polyethylene glycol (Zein/EGCG/PEG) composite nanoparticles and their interface adsorption behavior at the oil-water interface were investigated by coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulation. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and conformation analysis demonstrated that there were electrostatic and hydrogen bond interactions between Zein and EGCG, physical entanglement between PEG and Zein, and hydrogen bond interaction between EGCG and PEG. The nanoparticles accumulated at the oil-water interface, and the

The two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e- ORR) provides a sustainable route for green hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) synthesis, but the development of p-block metal catalysts that combine high activity with long-term stability remains challenging. Herein, we propose a hierarchical core-shell catalyst, SiO2@C/Sn. Mesoporous silicon dioxide (SiO2) serves as a rigid confinement scaffold to effectively suppress the migration and aggregation of Sn nanoparticles. Simultaneously, a conductive carbon layer was in-situ formed on the SiO2 surface, markedly enhancing interfacial charge transport. Importa

Posterior capsule opacification (PCO) is the most common complication after cataract surgery. It is primarily caused by the proliferation, migration, and adhesion of residual lens epithelial cells within the capsular bag following phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Although investigations of surface modification onto IOL have partially reduced PCO development in recent years, there are still challenges in long-term efficacy and intraocular biocompatibility. In this study, a cascade catalytic system is constructed using natural enzymes onto mesoporous silica nanopartic

Nanostructures made of magnetic cores (Fe3O4) with many smaller plasmonic (Au) nanostructures attached were covered with a very thin layer of silica. The first example of the application of this type of material for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) measurements is presented. (Fe3O4@Au)@SiO2 nanoparticles turned out to be very efficient substrates for SERS measurements. Moreover, due to the nanomaterial's strong magnetic properties, it can be easily manipulated using a magnetic field, and it is therefore possible to form homogeneous layers (with no significant 'coffee-ring' effect) of (

Disposable topographic silicon oxide patterns were fabricated from polymeric replicas of sawtoothed glass surfaces, spin-coating of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) thin films, and thermal annealing at certain temperature and followed by oxygen plasma treatment of the thin PDMS layer. A simple imprinting process was used to fabricate the replicated PDMS and PS patterns from sawtoothed glass surfaces. Next, thin layers of PDMS films having different thicknesses were spin-coated onto the sawtoothed PS surfaces and annealed at 60 degrees C to be drawn the PDMS into the valley of the sawtoothed PS su

Biomedical device-related bacterial infections are a leading cause of mortality, and traditional antibiotics contribute to resistance. Various surface modification strategies have been explored, but effective clinical solutions remain limited. This study introduces a novel antibacterial nanocoating with copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) that triggers localized nitric oxide (NO) release. The multilayered nanocoating is created using branched polyethylenimine (BPEI) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) via a Layer-by-Layer assembly method. CuNP-decorated nanocoatings are formed by reducing copper ions coordi

Nanocrystalline Tin Oxide (SnO₂) is Non-Stoichiometric in Nature with Functional Properties Suitable for gas sensing. In this study, SnO₂nanoparticles were prepared by the sol-gel technique, which were then characterised using X-ray diffraction. The nanoparticles showed tetragonal structure with an average crystallite size of 18 nm. The stretching and vibration modes of SnO₂were confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The size of SnO₂ nanoparticles was determined using particle size analyser, which was found be 60 ± 10 nm on average. The surface morphology of the nanoparticles

A reversible two-channel fluorescent nanocomposite with fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) effect was designed for the development, analysis, and characterization of latent fingerprints (LFPs). For the construction of the FRET probe, a core of mesoporous silicas (MSNs) were used to encapsulate the organic dye rhodamine 6G (RhD-6) as an acceptor, while green-emitting monodisperse phenolic resin nanoparticles (PFR NPs) were selected as a donor. The up-conversion material (UC) of NaYF4:Yb,Er was synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method, and the MSNs-RhD-6/PFR (PRM) was electrosta

Drug-loaded intraocular lenses (IOLs) have received considerable attention in treating complications that arise after cataract surgery, especially posterior capsular opacification (PCO). However, for a better therapeutic effect, the drug concentration in IOLs usually needs to be increased. Herein, we developed multilayer (doxorubicin (DOX)@polyaminoamide (PAMAM) (D@P)/heparin sodium (HEP))5 modified IOLs, which efficiently enhance the inhibitory effect on PCO using the enhanced autophagy effect of a cationic PAMAM. The chemotherapeutic drug DOX was encapsulated in PAMAM to formulate cationic D

The photoluminescence characteristic of the SnO(x)/Sn nanoparticles deposited on a solid supported liquid-crystalline phospholipid (1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) membrane was probed after plasma etching the nanoparticle monolayer. It was shown that the plasma etching of the nanoparticle surface greatly altered the particle morphology and enhanced the PL effect, especially when the particle size was below 10 nm in spite of strong presence of surrounding carbon. The enhancement mainly stemmed from the growth of a new PL peak due to the additional defect states produced on the nanopar
