BACKGROUND: Leukaemia cutis (LC) and leukaemic vasculitis (LV) are uncommon but important features of haematological malignancy.
OBJECTIVES: We aimed to evaluate clinicopathological features of a series of such cases.
METHODS: Thirty-four patients with LC were studied. Nineteen had acute myeloblastic leukaemia, six had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, three had myelodysplastic syndrome-refractory anaemia with excess blast in transformation, three had non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in leukaemic phase, two had chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and one had multiple myeloma.

OBJECTIVES: Acute leukemia often causes osteoarthralgia. The aim of this study is characterization of leukemia-associated osteoarthralgia in comparison with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed clinical records of 31 patients with acute leukemia and 13 patients with articular JIA diagnosed between January 2008 and March 2013. Clinical and laboratory findings at the initial examination were compared among the three groups; 10 leukemia with and 21 leukemia without osteoarthralgia and 13 JIA groups.

A 66-year-old man presented with dialysis-dependent acute kidney injury without cytopenia or peripheral blasts. Kidney biopsy revealed leukemic infiltration and led to the diagnosis of Philadelphia chromosome-negative B-acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Chemotherapy resulted in remission and recovery of renal function, highlighting the importance of early biopsy in unexplained acute kidney injury.

A total of 98 acute leukemia patients were investigated and 336 case histories were analyzed. All the patients were divided into 5 groups according to their age. Clinicohematological picture of acute leukemia in middle-aged and senile subjects was characterized by low leukemic infiltration of the bone marrow and more pronounced suppression of normal hemopoiesis.
