INTRODUCTION: Sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma with eosinophilia is a rare morphological variant of thyroid carcinoma associated with Hashimoto's disease. To date, only three such tumors have been reported in the minor salivary glands. BACKGROUND: Total lower lip defect is rare and its reconstruction difficult. The challenges are both aesthetic and functional. Suspension of the lower lip is essential for restoring oral competence. We report an original and simple technique of suspension by double nasolabial rigging.
METHOD: Two upper base orbitonasolabial flaps, extended over several centimeters below the lip commissures are raised. The epidermis is completely removed. Then, the flaps are tunneled under the skin and fixed to the reconstructed lower lip in order to provide it with effective suspension to the maxillary.

Reconstruction of a composite defect of the lower lip after oncological resection is challenging, and it is essential to consider both functional and aesthetic components when repairing lips. We report a technique that can be used to repair anything ranging from 30% to the whole of the lower lip with a bilateral commissurotomy and advancement of skin, muscle, and mucosal flaps. This technique helps to achieve good oral function, excellent lip function, and a pleasant aesthetic appearance. It also prevents microstomia and allows patients to maintain normal sensory innervation.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the comparative incidence of obstructive sleep apnea following velopharyngeal insufficiency surgery in the United States.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of cleft and noncleft pediatric patients who underwent velopharyngeal insufficiency surgery was performed using the IBM MarketScan Commercial Database. Patients were tracked longitudinally from 2007 to 2016 to evaluate the incidence of obstructive sleep apnea. Multivariable regression was used to evaluate predictors of postoperative obstructive sleep apnea and surgical revision.

BACKGROUND: Spectroscopic imaging can be helpful for the noninvasive identification of parenchymal brain tumors. The objective of the present study was the characterization of the metabolic profile of intracranial metastases, based on proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS).

The cause-specific mortality (1940-1993) of 2,985 male workers employed in three oil refineries was examined using a proportionate mortality study design. The biologic behavior of several common clinicopathologic types of melanoma is generally predictable by the depth of tumor invasion. However, some individuals have tumors that do no behave as predicted. These include what some authors have called borderline melanoma and minimal deviation melanoma as well as desmoplastic melanoma, thin superficial spreading melanoma with marked regression, and melanomas arising within some nevi. The reasons for the erratic behavior of these melanomas remains enigmatic.
