Blue light-emitting diodes in hair regrowth: the first prospective study.

Different studies highlight photo-receptors' presence on the hair follicle that seems to be capable of eliciting hair growth. This study aims to demonstrate blue light's effectiveness on hair growth in patients affected by androgenetic alopecia. Twenty patients enrolled at Magna Graecia University Unit of Dermatology, affected by androgenetic alopecia, were treated with a blue LED light device at 417 ± 10 nm, fluence of 120 J/cm2, and power intensity of 60 mW/cm2 ± 20%. The treatments were performed twice a week for ten consecutive weeks. Patients were evaluated before and 1 month after the en

In Vitro Cytological Responses against Laser Photobiomodulation for Periodontal Regeneration.

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by periodontal bacteria. Recently, periodontal phototherapy, treatment using various types of lasers, has attracted attention. Photobiomodulation, the biological effect of low-power laser irradiation, has been widely studied. Although many types of lasers are applied in periodontal phototherapy, molecular biological effects of laser irradiation on cells in periodontal tissues are unclear. Here, we have summarized the molecular biological effects of diode, Nd:YAG, Er:YAG, Er,Cr:YSGG, and CO2 lasers irradiation on cells in periodontal

Effect of MLS(®) laser therapy with different dose regimes for the treatment of experimentally induced tendinopathy in sheep: pilot study.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this preliminary study was to investigate the effect of Multiwave Locked System (MLS(®)), a particular model of low-level laser, in the acute phase of collagenase-induced tendon lesions in six adult sheep randomly assigned to two groups. BACKGROUND DATA: Tendon injuries are common among human athletes and in sport horses, require a long recovery time, and have a high risk of relapse. Many traditional treatments are not able to repair the injured tendon tissue correctly. In recent years, the use of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) produced interesting results in inflammator

Efficacy of low-level laser therapy for chronic cutaneous ulceration in humans: a review and discussion.

Chronic wounds, particularly venous ulcerations, are notoriously difficult to heal. Because current therapies are variable in their ability to induce complete healing, there remains a need to develop adjunctive treatments that can improve or accelerate the healing process. The use of low-energy lasers to stimulate wound healing has been pursued over many decades in studies of varying quality. This form of treatment has had high appeal due to its novelty, relative ease, and low morbidity profile. The authors reviewed the available published literature on low-level laser technology in an attempt

Granuloma faciale treated with the pulsed-dye laser: a case series.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is a rare cutaneous condition of unknown origin with characteristic clinicopathological features. It predominantly affects the face and in some causes an unacceptable cosmetic appearance. Numerous medical and surgical treatments have been used with varying degrees of success. Several single-patient case reports have demonstrated the successful use of the pulsed dye laser (PDL) in treating GF. This study assesses the results of four patients with facial GF from one dermatological laser centre that were treated with the Candela Vbeam PDL at 595 nm. Resolution of the GF was

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) efficacy in post-operative wounds.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper was to investigate the efficacy of low-level laser radiation (LLLR) with wavelength of 904 nm on the stimulation of the healing process of postoperative aseptic wounds (early scar). BACKGROUND DATA: Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has been increasingly used to treat many disorders, including wounds. However, despite such increased clinical usage, there is still controversy regarding the efficacy of this wound treatment in curent clinical practice. METHODS: LLLT has been used to treat cutting plague in the right instep and on the left foot. Both resulted from s

Flashlamp pulsed dye laser (FPDL) did not cure papulopustular rosacea.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Pharmacological treatment has a fairly good effect on the papulopustular lesions in rosacea, but not as good an effect on the erythema and telangiectases. The aim was to treat rosacea patients with both erythematotelangiectatic and papulopustular lesions with flashlamp pulsed dye laser (FPDL) until telangiectases/erythema disappeared, and to evaluate whether the treatment might also be effective on papulopustular lesions. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten patients were treated on one side of the face with FPDL. The final examination was blinded and performed o

585-nm pulsed dye laser treatment of glottal papillomatosis.

Treatment of recurrent respiratory papillomatosis of the glottis is often challenging. The surgeon and patient must cooperatively balance decisions regarding airway safety, effects of multiple general anesthesias, employment disturbance, and vocal dysfunction. A pilot study was done in 41 adult cases (23 patients; 78 vocal folds) without complication to evaluate the effectiveness of a 585-nm pulsed dye laser (PDL; 450-micros pulse width; fluence of 38 to 255 J/cm2; 1- to 2-mm spot size) in the treatment of this disorder. Thirty-seven of the 41 cases (90%) were bilateral disease. Twenty-six of

Lasers and Intense Pulsed Light Hidradenitis Suppurativa.

Lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment are useful for the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). Carbon dioxide lasers are used for cutting or vaporization of the affected area. It is a effective therapy for the management of severe and recalcitrant HS with persistent sinus tract and scarring, and can be performed under local anesthesia. HS has a follicular pathogenesis. Lasers and IPL targeting the hair have been found useful in treating HS by reducing the numbers of hairs in areas with HS. The methods have few side effects, but the studies are preliminary and need to be repeate

The effect of non-invasive physical interventions for accelerating tooth movement on orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Root resorption is one of the most common complications following orthodontic treatment, and severe cases may compromise tooth stability and function. Over the past decades, pharmacological, surgical, and non-invasive physical interventions have been explored to mitigate orthodontically induced root resorption. Among these approaches, non-invasive physical interventions have attracted increasing attention because of their favorable safety profile and clinical convenience. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of non-invasive physical interventions on orthodontically in
