Agenesis of the lung is extremely rare. Developmental defects of the lung are usually associated with other congenital malformations. Half of all reported patients die either at birth or within the first 5 yrs of life. We report a case of right lung agenesis with absence of the left kidney, and fusion anomaly between ribs 4 and 5 on the left hemithorax.

Pulmonary vasculitis occurs most commonly in the collagen vascular diseases and in granulomatous pulmonary disease. In the collagen vascular group, vasculitis causes diffuse interstitial inflammation and subsequent fibrosis, resulting in interstitial radiographic patterns, especially in the lower lung fields. Paragonimiasis results from infection with a trematode worm, P. Westermani or, less commonly, one of the many of the other Paragonimus species (for instance: Paragonimus africanus). Mycetomas of the lungs are, as a rule, localized in the upper (62), medial (22) and very rarely (8) in the lower portions of the lungs. Most frequent localization is the right lung. Operations were fulfilled on 68 of 92 patients. Surgery was shown to be the most effective method of treatment of patients with lung mycetomas. It results in complete and clinical recovery.

The physiologic and pathophysiologic role of the prostaglandins in the lung is not fully understood. Prostaglandins seem to be important in the regulation of local blood flow. They might be involved in relaxation of the pulmonary vascular bed by opposing hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction and in constriction of the pulmonary vascular bed after microembolisation. Agenesis of the lung is rare. The cases of ten patients with this malformation are recorded and illustrated. Most had congenital malformation of other organs, especially the heart, as well. All had hypoplasia of the pulmonary artery or its branches. A pantaloon-like appearance of the trachea and the main bronchi on the bronchograms is described. Exercise tolerance was impaired in all patients.
