An eleven-year old girl's case of an inflammatory process of the right lower abdomen is described, with a positive agglutination reaction to … er identified as "Y. pseudotuberculosis" type I-A. A comment follows on the frequency of mesenteric lymphadenitis as cause of inflammatory processes of the lower right abdomen in children and the rarity of isolation of "Y. pseudotuberculosis" as etiological agent as compared with the more common "Y. enterocolitica".

Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and tuberculosis (TB) share overlapping clinical features, such as lymphadenopathy, fever, weight loss, and night sweats, which can complicate the diagnostic process, particularly in endemic regions. This case report describes a 10-year old boy with persistent cervical lymphadenopathy, initially diagnosed as tuberculous lymphadenitis based on fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). The child was promptly started on anti-tubercular therapy (ATT), but his condition showed no improvement. Repeated biopsies ultimately revealed mixed cellularity HL, with the same lymph node te…

BACKGROUND: The discovery of a cervicofacial swelling is a common concern among the pediatric population with a broad range of potential diagnoses. While infectious origins related to dental infection are frequent, it is crucial not to overlook other systemic causes. Among these causes, cervical tuberculous lymphadenitis (CTL) stands out as one of the most common forms of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. This condition poses a significant diagnostic challenge in children, as it is often asymptomatic and can lead to a misdiagnosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: The aim of this paper is to highlight, through …

Coccidioidomycosis is a fungal infection endemic to arid regions. Although it usually presents as a pulmonary infection, extrapulmonary dissemination is rare, and cervical lymphadenitis is even more unusual with fewer than five cases reported in the literature. Diagnosis of this disease remains a clinical challenge due to its rarity and similarity to other clinical entities. A 34-year-old woman with lupus nephritis on immunosuppressive therapy presented with a painful cervical mass associated with unquantified fever of six weeks of evolution. The patient is a resident of Coahuila, Mexico, in a…

We report a rare case of pediatric supraclavicular pyogenic lymphadenitis presenting with an "asymmetrical shoulder" in a five-year-old boy. The boy developed right neck and shoulder pain following the resolution of cellulitis at the site of insect bites on his right forearm. Despite the absence of visible inflammation in the shoulder or proximal lymph nodes, short tau inversion recovery magnetic resonance imaging (STIR-MRI) revealed an enlarged supraclavicular lymph node with surrounding edema. He fully recovered following intravenous antibiotic treatment. This case highlights that lymphadeni…

BACKGROUND: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is commonly used in the primary workup of suspected tuberculous lymphadenitis. Microbiological studies are essential for confirmation of diagnosis and drug resistance. However, the sensitivity of individual microbiological tests is low. We undertook this study to analyze the different cytomorphological patterns of tuberculous lymphadenitis and to compare the role of Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) stain, Auramine-Rhodamine (AR) stain, Mycobacterium Growth Indicator Tube Culture (MGIT), and Cartridge-Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing (CBNAAT) in the …

Two surveys were conducted to assess the prevalence and risk factors of ovine caseous lymphadenitis (CL) and explore the association between its superficial and visceral forms in Sardi sheep in Settat province, Morocco. A total of 1521 sheep, including 318 lambs < 6 months, 572 young sheep aged 6-24 months, and 631 adult sheep > 24 months, were examined from 57 flocks. Superficial CL prevalence levels were as follows: 69/318 in lambs, 292/572 in young sheep, and 114/631 in adult sheep. Additionally, 2124 sheep, including 1813 young and 311 adult sheep, were inspected in slaughterhouses ante- a…

We present a case of a three-month-old Hispanic female seen in the clinic for atopic dermatitis (AD) along with a rare incidence of associated cephalocervical lymphadenitis. The patient had a three-month history of redness, irritation, inflammation, and pruritus of the scalp, face, torso, and lymph nodes. The history and examination originally indicated seborrheic dermatitis with AD, impetigo, and folliculitis on the differential. Due to the rarity of this presentation, it is crucial to increase clinical recognition and awareness of this combination among physicians to improve patient outcomes…

Tuberculous lymphadenitis is among the most frequent presentations of extrapulmonary tuberculosis; the most common presentation is isolated chronic non-tender lymphadenopathy in young adults without systemic symptoms. Dupilumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody directed against interleukin-4 receptor-α that blocks the synergistic effects of interleukin-4 and interleukin-13 on allergic inflammation. Its well-known adverse events are allergic conjunctivitis, injection site reaction, and dupilumab facial redness. A 32-year-old female with severe atopic dermatitis was treated with dupilumab for…

BACKGROUND: To describe sonographic characteristics of cervical tuberculous lymphadenitis (CTBL) in children, clinical information, and sonograms of 348 lymph nodes (LNs) from 57 children with CTBL were retrospectively analyzed in this study.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data and sonograms of 348 LNs from 31 boys and 26 girls with CTBL, who were confirmed by pathology or laboratory examination, at the Hangzhou Red Cross Hospital between June 2014 and December 2020. The age of the children ranged from 1 to 14 years (average 7.1 ± 2.9 years).
RESULTS: Night sweats, fatigue…

BACKGROUND: Tuberculous lymphadenitis (TBLA) is the most common extrapulmonary manifestation of tuberculosis (TB) in Denmark. However, the clinical features of patients with TBLA have never been systematically studied in this setting.
METHODS: Patients treated for TBLA in Central Region Denmark from 2007 to 2016 were identified using the national TB surveillance register and The Danish Hospital Patient Registry. Data of clinical characteristics and treatment were extracted from hospital records.
RESULTS: Eighty-three TBLA patients were identified. The median age was 32 years (IQR 23-42); 71 …

Although relatively uncommon in horses, infections caused by Mycobacterium spp. may affect the gastrointestinal tract. Mycobacterium branderi is a non-tuberculous Mycobacterium (NTM) that causes respiratory infections in man. Non-tuberculous mycobacteria may also affect horses; however, infection by M. branderi has not yet been reported in this species. This report describes the clinical, pathological, microbiological and molecular findings of M. branderi infection in a horse, causing granulomatous mesenteric lymphadenitis. A 17-year-old Thoroughbred stallion had a 3-month history of chronic d…
