OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the functional outcome and pain control in patients after resection of humeral metastases.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective randomized study of 24 cases of metastatic disease of the humerus with an associated pathologic fracture was carried out. Vertebral hemangiomas can cause difficult-to-treat neurological complications. We report our experience with three such cases. Patients no. 1 and 2 were females aged 64 and 71 years, respectively; patient no. 1 had a two-year history of weakness in the lower limbs and patient no. 2 had a five-month history of back pain. This paper presents an overview of the common types of corneal staining that are encountered when wearing contact lenses. Included are descriptions of corneal staining occurring with rigid lenses (polymethylmethacrylate and cellulose acetate buterate), various types of hydrophilic lenses and silicone lenses. Specific patterns of sodium fluorescein staining are depicted and related to the various types of contact lenses.

A tougher, more fatigue-resistant bone cement consisting of short, highmodulus carbon fibers dispersed randomly in normal ply(methyl methacrylate) bone cement has been developed. Fatigue and impact tests are reported that demonstrate the superior fracture resistance and prolonged load-carrying ability of this system. The use of this carbon fiber-reinforced bone cement in the treatment of a pathological fracture of the femur associated with neoplastic disease of the bone is reported. The tougher cement has provided long-term stability of the fracture.

The objective of this study was to determine whether short exposure to pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) accelerates bone repair and peri-implant bone formation in a rat tibial model at different times. In this work, a new copolymer synthesized in our laboratory is used as physically adsorbed coating for capillary electrophoresis (CE).
