Engineered molybdenum disulfide nanosheets as scavengers against oxidative stress inhibit ferroptosis to alleviate acute kidney injury.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common clinical kidney dysfunction associated with high morbidity, elevated mortality, and poor prognosis. It results from redox imbalance caused by abnormal excess production of endogenous reactive oxygen species (ROS) at the renal tubules, which in turn initiates a series of pathological processes, such as cellular apoptosis, necrosis, and ferroptosis, eventually leading to structural and functional impairment of the kidney. Thereinto, ferroptosis induced by the lethal accumulation of lipid peroxidation is extensively involved in renal damage. Nanotechnology-me

Molybdenum and cadmium cause blood-testis barrier dysfunction through ROS-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation in sheep.

In this study, 24 healthy male sheep were divided into four groups: the control group, Mo group (45 mg Mo·kg-1·BW), Cd group (1 mg Cd·kg-1·BW), and Mo + Cd group (45 mg Mo·kg-1·BW + 1 mg Cd·kg-1·BW). The experiment was last for 50 d. The results showed that Mo and Cd co-exposure induced histopathological changes and ultrastructural damage, decreased the mRNA and protein expression levels of BTB (blood-testis barrier)-related factors (CX-43, ZO-1, OCLN) (P < 0.05) and the T-SOD and CAT activity (P < 0.05), increased the MDA content (P < 0.05) and the proinflammatory factors levels (P < 0.05) in

A Novel Hydro-Thermal Synthesis of Nano-Structured Molybdenum-Iron Intermetallic Alloys at Relatively Low Temperatures.

Nano-structured Mo/Fe intermetallics were synthesized from precursors that contained 72/28% and 30/70% molar ratios of Mo/Fe, which were given as precursors A and B, respectively. These precursors were prepared from the co-precipitation of aqueous hot solutions of ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate (AHM) and ferrous oxalate. The dry precipitates were thermally treated using TG-DSC to follow up their behavior during roasting, in an Ar atmosphere of up to 700 °C (10° K/min). The TG profile showed that 32.5% and 55.5% weight losses were measured from the thermal treatment of precursors A and B,

Gas-Phase Conversion of 1,3-Dithiolane-2-Thione Into 1,3-Dithiolan-2-One Over Molybdenum Trioxide.

Gas-phase reaction of 1,3-dithiolane-2-thione over molybdenum trioxide supported on pumice stone results in efficient conversion into 1,3-dithiolan-2-one. The solid reagent is regenerated on exposure to air and thus acts as a catalyst for the overall conversion of the thione and oxygen from the air into the ketone and sulfur dioxide. The process can be carried out under either dynamic vacuum or atmospheric pressure flow conditions and using a solid reagent prepared either by physical mixing of MoO3 with the support or by solution impregnation, with an isolated yield of up to 67% obtained.

Efficient quantum dot light-emitting diodes with solution-processable molybdenum oxide as the anode buffer layer.

Quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QD-LEDs) are characterized by pure and saturated emission colors with narrow bandwidth. Optimization of the device interface is an effective way to achieve stable and high-performance QD-LEDs. Here we utilized solution-processed molybdenum oxide (MoOx) as the anode buffer layer on ITO to build efficient QD-LEDs. Using MoOx as the anode buffer layer provides the QD-LED with good Ohmic contact and a small charge transfer resistance. The device luminance is nearly independent of the thickness of the MoOx anode buffer layer. The QD-LEDs with a MoOx anode buffer l

Cupric oxide needles for grazing cattle consuming low-copper, high-molybdenum forage and high-sulfate water.

Oxidized copper wire, commonly referred to as copper oxide needles (CuON), was evaluated using purebred Hereford cows and their calves. Thirty-seven cows were allocated to Cu treatments of 0, 25 or 50 g CuON (79.9% Cu in CuON) with 12, 12 and 13 cows per treatment, respectively; calves within cow treatments were allocated to treatment of 0 and 20 g CuON. Single oral doses of CuON were given at the start of a grazing trial that lasted 92 d. Cows and calves were weighed and blood samples were taken on d 0, 28, 63 and 92; liver biopsies were taken on d 0, 28 and 92 of the grazing trial. Cattle we

Molybdenum(VI) borano-imido complexes and their application as Lewis acid catalysts in homocoupling of diazo compounds.

We report the synthesis, structural characterization, and catalytic activity of a borano-imido molybdenum complex featuring a unique motif B-NMoCl4(thf), prepared via the reaction of a phenylpyridine-based boron azide with [MoCl4(thf)2]. Spectroscopic and crystallographic analyses confirmed the formation of a linear B-N-Mo(VI) linkage. Reaction of the formed imido complex with various neutral donors resulted in solvent-assisted reduction and formation of several structurally diverse Mo(V) derivatives, showing the adaptability of the imido framework. The Mo(VI) imido complex acts as a strong L

Diversity and geographical distribution of potential carbon monoxide oxidizers using molybdenum-containing enzymes in the ocean.

Carbon monoxide (CO) evolves from photochemical or thermal reactions in the ocean. It is estimated that 90% of oceanic CO is consumed by CO-oxidizing prokaryotes, which convert CO to carbon dioxide using molybdenum-containing CO dehydrogenase (Mo-CODH). Investigation of form I cox, which encodes Mo-CODH, has revealed that oceanic prokaryotes with form I cox (potential cox-containing CO oxidizers: pcox-CO oxidizers) belong to eight phyla and occupy 10%-20% of prokaryotes. However, previous studies may have overestimated their diversity due to the use of less stringent criteria, and their ecolog

New Neuroimaging Findings in Patients with Molybdenum Cofactor Deficiency Type A: A Case Report and Literature Review.

INTRODUCTION: Molybdenum cofactor deficiency (MoCD-A) is an extremely rare autosomal recessive disease that presents with intractable seizures. The diagnosis poses challenges due to the limited number of cases reported worldwide. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a useful diagnostic tool that can detect brain injury associated with the disorder. The prognosis of MoCD-A is poor partly because most cases are initially misdiagnosed as HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy), emphasizing the need for an early and accurate diagnosis to improve quality of life and provide adequate genetic counseling

Responses of Phragmites communis and its rhizosphere bacteria to different exposure sequences of molybdenum disulfide and levofloxacin.

The effect of the molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)/levofloxacin (LVF) co-exposure was explored on Phragmites communis and rhizosphere soil bacterial communities. The sequence of MoS2/LVF exposure and the different MoS2 dosages (10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg) contributed to different degrees of effect on the plant after 42 days of exposure. The treatment with priority addition of low dosage MoS2 significantly ameliorated P. communis growth, with root length growing up to 532.22 ± 46.29 cm compared to the sole LVF stress (200.04 ± 29.13 cm). Besides, MoS2 served as an alleviator and reduced the accumulation

Surface Functionalization of Layered Molybdenum Disulfide for the Selective Detection of Volatile Organic Compounds at Room Temperature.

Semiconducting two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are considered promising sensing materials due to the high surface-to-volume ratio and active sensing sites. However, the reported strategies for 2D TMDCs toward sensing of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) present with some drawbacks. These include high operation temperatures, low gas response, and complex fabrication, limiting the development of room-temperature gas sensors. In this study, 2D MoS2 nanoflakes were prepared by liquid-phase exfoliation, and their surface was functionalized with Au nanoparticles (NPs) t

The effects of low-copper diets with or without supplemental molybdenum on specific immune responses of stressed cattle.

Angus bull calves (n = 42; 7 mo of age; 254 kg initial BW) were used to investigate the effects of dietary Cu and Mo on immune function of stressed cattle. Randomly selected calves (n = 22) were injected with 90 mg of Cu as Cu glycinate 28 d before weaning and castrated at weaning. These calves received 7.5 and 5 mg of supplemental Cu/kg of DM during a 41-d receiving phase and a 196-d growing phase, respectively. The remainder of the steers received no supplemental Cu during the experiment. Copper-supplemented steers had adequate Cu status at weaning, whereas unsupplemented calves were margina

Effect of molybdenum-deficient and low iron diets on xanthine oxidase activity and iron status in rats.

We tested the hypothesis proposed by Topham, Woodruff and Walker that intestinal xanthine oxidase is important for iron absorption. We made weanling rats xanthine oxidase-deficient and measured their growth and iron status. There were no significant differences between control and xanthine oxidase-depleted rats in growth or iron absorption or a variety of measures of iron metabolism, except that xanthine oxidase-depleted rats accumulated nonheme iron in the liver. Iron deficiency caused a loss in intestinal xanthine oxidase activity, but also caused an increase in hepatic xanthine oxidase acti

[Double deficiency of sulfite and xanthine oxidase causing encephalopathy and due to a hereditary anomaly in the metabolism of molybdenum].

The clinical features and biological results in a second patient with a metabolic defect of the molybdenum cofactor are described. The first case was reported in 1978 by Duran et al. Their clinical description was similar with early encephalopathy and myoclonial and dislocation of the lens. Biologically, this condition is characterised by secondary hypo-uricemia and hypo-uricuria due to xanthine oxidase deficiency and by sulphituria, resulting from sulphite oxidase deficiency. These two enzymes have a common hepatic molybdenum cofactor, the structure and metabolism of which are only partially

Controllable and Nanoscale Linear Etching of Atomic Layer Deposited Molybdenum Using Cyclic Stepwise CHF3/O2 Plasma.

Precise nanoscale control of molybdenum (Mo) etching is critical for state-of-the-art interconnects, 3D NAND, and other key applications like back-side power delivery network. Herein, we demonstrate a controllable, nanoscale etching process for Mo films using a cyclic stepwise CHF3/O2 plasma approach. Compared to continuous etching, cyclic stepwise etching achieves exceptional etching linearity (R2 = 0.999) with a precisely tunable etch depth per cycle ranging from 0.74 nm/cycle at 45 W to 1.71 nm/cycle at 90 W. Furthermore, the cyclic process significantly improves surface quality, reducing r
