Dynamic Changes in Amino Acid Release Patterns of Different Plant Protein Sources During In Vitro Digestion and Their Nutritional Value Assessment.

A gastric-intestinal two-step enzymatic hydrolysis in vitro digestion simulation system was used to systematically investigate the digestion kinetics and amino acid release characteristics of five plant protein sources: soybean meal, rapeseed meal, corn DDGS, corn gluten meal, and corn germ meal. The results showed that in the gastric digestion phase (120 min), the protein hydrolysis degree of soybean meal was the highest (61.8%, p < 0.001), which was 4.4 times that of corn gluten meal (14.0%). In the intestinal digestion phase (240 min), the low-molecular-weight peptide release of corn gluten

Association and predictive value of preoperative nutritional risk index with one-year mortality in heart transplant recipients from a understudied population.

BACKGROUND: Preoperative nutritional status plays a critical role in surgical outcomes. While the Nutritional Risk Index (NRI) has prognostic value in diverse surgical cohorts, its use in heart transplantation (HTx) remains unclear in populations with limited organ donation rates and distinct post-transplant care environments. METHODS: This retrospective study involved patients who underwent HTx from January 2013 to December 2016. Preoperative health data were collected, NRI scores were calculated, and all-cause mortality was recorded during a one-year follow-up. The relationship between NRI

Prognostic value of combined psoas muscle mass and controlling nutritional status in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic ductal carcinoma (PDAC) is an extremely poor prognostic disease. Even though multidisciplinary treatment for PDAC has developed, supportive therapies, such as nutritional therapy or perioperative rehabilitation to sustain and complete aggressive treatment, have not yet been well-established in PDAC. The aim of this study was to elucidate the relationship between the combined index using psoas muscle mass index (PMI) values and controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score and prognosis. METHODS: We included 101 patients diagnosed with PDAC who underwent radical pancreate

The prognostic value of patient-reported outcomes in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: exploratory analysis of a randomized nutrition intervention trial.

Whether patient-reported outcomes (PROs) can predict overall survival (OS) and non-relapse mortality (NRM) among recipients of allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), is unclear. We performed an exploratory analysis of the prognostic value of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) among 117 recipients of allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) who participated in a randomized nutrition intervention trial. Cox proportional hazards models were used to investigate possible associations between PROs collected pre-allo-HSCT (baseline) using scores from the EORTC Quality of Life Questio

Evaluation of predicted ration nutritional values by NRC (2001) and INRA (2018) feed evaluation systems, and implications for the prediction of milk response.

Net energy and protein systems (hereafter called feed evaluation systems) offer the possibility to formulate rations by matching feed values (e.g., net energy and metabolizable protein) with animal requirements. The accuracy and precision of this approach relies heavily on the quantification of various animal digestive and metabolic responses to dietary changes. Therefore, the aims of the current study were, first, to evaluate the predicted responses to dietary changes of total-tract digestibility (including organic matter, crude protein, and neutral detergent fiber) and nitrogen (N) flows at

Determining the optimal value of the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index to screen older patients with malnutrition risk: A study at a university hospital in Japan.

AIM: The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) can predict nutritional risk. However, just a few studies have validated the optimal cut-off value of GNRI for nutrition screening in older patients. Hence, this study aimed to determine the optimal value of GNRI to screen the risk of malnutrition among older patients. METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study was carried out with 5867 consecutive older adult patients who were admitted to an academic hospital in Japan. Receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were carried out to obtain the optimal cut-off value of GNRI, and the

The prognostic value of the CRP-albumin ratio for peripheral artery disease: A cross-sectional study from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

The CRP-to-albumin ratio (CAR) has emerged as a composite inflammatory-nutritional biomarker with prognostic value in various cardiovascular conditions, yet its association with peripheral artery disease (PAD) in the general population remains underexplored. This study aimed to investigate the association between CAR and PAD in a nationally representative sample of US adults. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 6128 participants aged ≥40 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 1999-2004). PAD was defined as an ankle-brachial index ≤0.90. Multivariable lo
