Invasive cervical resorption (ICR) is a significant and often aggressive pathologic process that, unfortunately, might lead to tooth loss. The presence of such a lesion in the cervical area is always a clinical challenge. This article presents an ICR case in which successful treatment was achieved by combining 4 disciplines: endodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, and prosthetics. Forced eruption combined with fiberotomy was used in this case for pulling the root rapidly from within the alveolar socket, thus exposing sound and healthy tooth material beyond the affected zone suitable for crown

AIM: The aim of this article is to report a successful treatment of a complicated crown-root fracture.
BACKGROUND: The management of complicated crown-root fracture in young patients is challenging as the fracture line is below the bone crest and the pulp is exposed. Treatment options include crown lengthening, orthodontic extrusion, and intentional replantation.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Here, a case of complicated crown-root fracture of tooth number 11 in a ten-year-old boy is presented. Intentional replantation with 180° rotation and slight extrusion and fixation was performed. In addition, root …

This case report demonstrates the efficient use of implant anchorage in a patient with mesially inclined mandibular molars and an overerupted maxillary molar. A 14-year-old girl had an overerupted maxillary right first molar, possibly because of severely inclined mandibular right molars. Two-step use of miniplate anchorage in the right zygomatic process was proposed. As the first step, the overerupted maxillary first molar was intruded with elastic chains from the miniplate for 10 months. Then the maxillary right molars were distalized by using the miniplate to correct the Class II molar relat

Odontodysplasia of the third molars is a relatively common anomaly. The frequent complications associated with this disorder very often constitute an indication for extraction of the third molar. This surgical treatment can damage the lower alveolar nerve and/or trigger distal bone loss of the second molar, thus jeopardizing the future status of the periodontium. The author presents two case studies treated exclusively with miniscrews with no dental anchorage in order to achieve partial eruption of the third molar moving it away from the lower alveolar nerve and to avoid unwanted impact on oth

Background/Objectives: Orthodontic mini-implants have become indispensable in modern orthodontics due to their ability to provide absolute anchorage, independent of patient compliance. Our research aims to illustrate the versatility of mini-implants in addressing diverse biomechanical challenges across different planes of tooth movement (sagittal, transverse, and vertical) based on a retrospective clinical analysis. Methods: A retrospective analysis of orthodontic treatments performed with mini-implants (Dual Top and JS systems) was conducted, focusing on predefined biomechanical objectives an

When a tooth fracture occurs, the fracture line can extend in a variety of directions, and the direction of the fracture line often dictates the treatment plan. In cases where fracture lines extend apical to the gingival margin, exposure of fractured margins becomes necessary. And management of such tooth fractures often requires an interdisciplinary approach involving endodontic, periodontic and restorative procedures. This article describes a case in which severely traumatized maxillary anterior teeth were managed by a combined approach involving surgical exposure and crown lengthening, endo

INTRODUCTION: The cant of the occlusal plane in the frontal plane reflects facial asymmetry. Its treatment requires close collaboration between the orthodontist and the maxillofacial surgeon. In case of mild cant, treatment consists in coordination of dental arches followed by mandibular osteotomy. For more severe asymmetries, mandibular and maxillar surgery may be necessary to straighten the occlusal plane. However, this procedure can be disproportionate when the cant is moderate. The objective of our case series is to describe an orthodontic-surgical protocol straightening the occlusion plan

This case report describes a complex approach to orthodontic preparation for surgical treatment of a Class III facial skeletal deformity in a patient who suffered a unilateral maxilla fracture that also featured maxillary left central incisor avulsion, maxillary right central incisor extrusion, and maxillary right lateral luxation. A 12-mm negative overjet was formed by extraction of the maxillary right lateral incisor and closure of the residual space by retraction of the maxillary right central incisor, maxillary left lateral incisors, and maxillary right and left canines. Forward and impact

The purpose of this report is to describe the dentoalveolar distraction (DAD) technique and to present its effects on the surrounding structures by presenting a Class II case. A 15-year-old skeletal and dental Class II female patient with an overjet of 9 mm was treated by DAD osteogenesis. A custom-made, rigid, tooth-borne intraoral distraction device was used for rapid canine retraction. Osteotomies surrounding the canines were made to achieve rapid movement of the canines within the dentoalveolar segment, in compliance with distraction osteogenesis principles. The amount of canine retraction

A smile that reveals >4 mm of gum tissue is called a gummy smile (GS), offering negative impacts on people's self-confidence and aesthetic appearance. The treatment for GS should be planned according to underlying causes such as altered passive eruption of teeth, dentoalveolar extrusion, vertical maxillary excess, and short or hyperactive lip muscles. In this case report, a patient with severe GS received orthodontic and gingivoplasty treatment, aided by digital tools such as 3D simulation, smile design, and 3D printed guides. The treatment yielded remarkable and satisfactory results, without

Teeth with traumatic crown-root fractures extending subgingivally and involving the entire width of the tooth may have problems in endodontic isolation, periodontal maintenance, and restoration. A number of techniques, such as crown lengthening, and orthodontic or surgical extrusion, have been described for treatment of crown-root fractures. However, all of these techniques have limitations in terms of the extended time required for treatment, cost, and esthetic considerations. Intra-alveolar transplantation is an alternative treatment option in the management of complicated crown-root fractur

Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) patients may experience emotional withdrawal during their growth period due to their abnormal facial appearance. Distraction osteogenesis at an early age to improve their appearance can encourage these patients. Some abnormalities of the affected side can be overcome by distraction osteogenesis at an early age. However, differences in the growth rate between the affected and unaffected sides during the rest of the growth period are inevitable due to the characteristics of HFM. Therefore, re-evaluation should be performed after completion of growth in order to achiev
