Desmoplastic small round cell tumor is an extremely rare and highly aggressive neoplasm. It usually arises as a single mass or multiple masses in the abdominal cavity, characterized by diffuse peritoneal implants, involvement of regional lymph nodes, and liver and lung metastases. However, bone marrow metastasis has rarely been reported in the literature. We present a case of clinically symptomatic bone marrow metastasis in a 25-year-old woman with a diagnosis of desmoplastic small round cell tumor originating from the pelvic cavity.

Polypoid endometriosis is a remarkably rare variant of endometriosis that may clinically and morphologically mimic benign or malignant neoplasms. Vaginal involvement is particularly uncommon and can pose diagnostic challenges due to its atypical presentation. Recognition of this clinical entity is crucial, especially in women with advanced pelvic endometriosis and a history of abnormal vaginal bleeding. This report concerns the case of a 36-year-old woman with a known history of stage IV endometriosis who presented with intermenstrual bleeding, postcoital bleeding, secondary infertility and ch

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Xanthomatous inflammation is a rare chronic inflammatory condition typically affecting organs such as the kidney and gallbladder. Its occurrence in the female genital tract, particularly in the ovaries and fallopian tubes, is exceptionally rare and sparsely documented.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a unique case of xanthomatous inflammation involving the fallopian tube and ovary, characterized by the presence of hobnail cells and apocrine metaplasia. This represents the first documented instance in medical literature. A 55-year-old woman presented with pelvic masse

Cotyledonoid dissecting leiomyoma (CDL) is a rare uterine tumor with unique clinical and histological features. We present a case of a 46-year-old woman with a 3-month history of left-flank pain radiating to the back. The patient had a history of infertility and a previous miscarriage. Ultrasound revealed a solid tissue mass suggestive of a degenerated fibroid. Laparoscopy identified subserosal leiomyoma and leiomyoma in the broad ligament. Histologically, CDL is characterized by disorganized smooth muscle with hyaline degeneration and no evidence of malignancy. Clinically, CDL can present wit

Endosalpingiosis is a benign condition with unclear pathogenesis and clinical significance and is defined as the presence of ectopic fallopian tube-like epithelium. It can be found in multiple locations, most commonly in the pelvic peritoneum covering the ovaries, uterus, and fallopian tubes, and less commonly found in the lymph nodes, omentum, appendix, cervix, vulva, or vagina. It is difficult to distinguish from endometriosis by gross appearance or localization, and theories propose that tissues of the secondary Mullerian system may undergo a metaplastic transformation, for example, from en

BACKGROUND: Leiomyomas are benign smooth muscle cell tumours. They are the most common uterine neoplasms, although they may also occur elsewhere, such as in the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts. Leiomyomas are uncommon in von Recklinghausen's neurofibromatosis (NF1). However, the literature suggests that the association of NF1 and leiomyomas or leiomyosarcoma is not entirely coincidental.
CASE REPORT: We report here the unusual case of a 47-year-old woman with NF1 who presented menorrhagias and a hard, tender pelvic mass composed of uterine leiomyomas. Positron emission tomography/computed

BACKGROUND: Salmonella species tubo-ovarian abscess is a rare clinical occurrence. Salmonella organisms are gastrointestinal pathogens that are not thought to create disease with sufficient spread or severity to result in intraperitoneal extension.
CASE: A 32-year-old nulligravid woman presented with abdominal pain, fever, and bloody diarrhea. On imaging, she was found to have complex pelvic masses highly suspicious for neoplasm. Surgical exploration revealed tubo-ovarian abscesses and peritonitis. The ovarian tissue culture revealed a Salmonella infection. The final pathology showed bilatera

Liposarcoma of uterus is a very rare neoplasm encountered generally in the sixth or seventh decade of life. We reported the eighth case of uterine liposarcoma with extension to broad ligament in a 23-year-old woman who presented with pelvic pain, dysuria, and rapidly enlarging pelvic mass. During laparotomy, the mass was detected to be originated from the uterine cervix. In frozen section, no definitive diagnosis was established, and for preservation of fertility, extirpation of the mass was performed. The histopathologic examination of the specimen revealed liposarcoma. The tumor cells were d

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare neoplasms commonly arising from the pleura. Multiple extra-pleura occurrences have been established by the literature. CT scan and MRI with IV contrast serve as the steppingstone for early detection and diagnosis, and to evaluate disease burden. Surgical resection is most of the time curative. SFTs carry a malignant potential and may recur or metastasize thus long-term follow-up is of utmost importance for patients diagnosed with this tumor. We discuss the case of a 47-year-old male patient who presented with urinary retention, caused by a large pelvic t

Leiomyomas are benign mesenchymal neoplasms mostly seen in the uterus and are one of the most common pelvic masses seen in women, but primary ovarian leiomyomas are rare among all the benign ovarian tumors, which account only for 0.5%-1%. The definitive diagnosis of such lesions is difficult prior to surgical excision, as there are no pathognomonic symptoms or characteristic imaging findings. Here, we report a case of primary ovarian leiomyoma with brief review of literature, highlighting the differential diagnosis of ovarian spindle cell lesions. The correct diagnosis of an ovarian leiomyoma

Steroid-secreting neoplasms of the ovary and adrenal gland comprise a small group of tumors. A 76-year-old woman presented hair loss, facial hirsutism associated with increased serum total testosterone level. The adrenal glands and the ovaries were normal on radiological and ultrasonographic investigation. The patient was submitted to a pelvic exploratory laparotomy. Hysterectomy and salpingo-oophorectomy were performed. A solid and circumscribed ovarian tumor of 2 cm in diameter was found. The pathological diagnosis was lipid cell tumor with stromal hyperplasia. The purpose of this report is

Primary neoplasms of the renal pelvis are rare. Most are malignant, and most of these are transitional cell carcinomas. We report the unusual occurrence of a squamous cell carcinoma with sarcomatoid stroma arising from the renal pelvic mucosa in a patient with renal lithiasis. Immunohistochemical stains for keratin intermediate filaments failed to demonstrate their presence in the spindle cell portion of the tumor. Transmission electron microscopic study did not reveal structures of an epithelial nature in these same cells. Our findings support the contention that the spindle cells of the stro

INTRODUCTION: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare fibroblastic neoplasms that can occur at various anatomical sites, including the pleura, retroperitoneum, and pelvis. Although surgical resection remains the mainstay of curative treatment, pelvic SFTs often present as giant hypervascular tumors, making intraoperative bleeding control particularly challenging.

A 64-year-old man underwent initial F-FDG PET/CT staging for gastric cardia adenocarcinoma, which showed the primary gastric tumor, several bone metastases, and high uptake in a periurethral mass mimicking pelvic neoplasm developed after injection of polydimethylsiloxane (Macroplastique) urethral bulking agent 6 years ago for postprostatectomy stress urinary incontinence. This case showed a very rare complication of silicon particle injection therapy, and the intense uptake is likely due to granulomatous reaction around the implant.

Small cell carcinoma of the ovary, hypercalcemic type (SCCOHT), is a highly aggressive neoplasm that typically occurs in young females. Paraneoplastic hypercalcemia is associated in two thirds of the cases. Recent studies demonstrated that this rare tumor harbors the same molecular features of malignant rhabdoid tumor secondary to SMARCA4/BRG1 mutations. We illustrate herein a typical bilateral case of SCCOHT with comprehensive molecular characterization in a 14-year-old girl. We also discuss the value of SMARCA4 immunostaining in the diagnostic approach of undifferentiated ovarian and pelvic

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a neoplasm most commonly found in the abdominal-pelvic region, lung, and retroperitoneum. The tumor tends to affect soft tissues of children and young adults and can locally recur but rarely metastasizes. Histologically, the appearance is one of bland spindle cell proliferation with a prominent, chronic inflammatory infiltrate. This article describes 1 case of IMT found in the orbit that is presented with rapidly progressive painless proptosis. In the authors' review of the literature, they have only found 2 other case reports involving the orbit.

Iatrogenic vascular injury is a potentially serious complication of surgical procedures. Here we report a case of delayed fatal intra-abdominal hemorrhage because of electrocautery injury of a right external iliac artery. The decedent, a 31-year-old woman, died suddenly on postoperative day 1 after a laparoscopic staging operation for an ovarian tumor. Her past medical history included a recent diagnosis of a microinvasive carcinoma in the background of a mucinous cystic neoplasm of the right ovary. Postmortem examination revealed a young woman with evidence of emergency intervention, recent l

INTRODUCTION: Ovarian fibrothecal tumors are rare, benign neoplasms accounting for 1-4.7% of organic ovarian tumors, predominantly affecting postmenopausal women. This report highlights the diagnostic challenge and intraoperative management of a voluminous ovarian fibrothecal tumor presenting with atypical, purely mechanical symptoms.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 67-year-old female presented with a 5-month history of progressive pelvic pain without endocrine manifestations. Clinical examination revealed a lateralized, mobile hypogastric mass exceeding 10 cm. Abdominopelvic computed tomography (CT)

Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a rare tumour and comprises 2-3% of all malignant uterus neoplasms [1]. Leiomyosarcoma is characterised by aggressive behaviour, high recurrence rates, and poor overall survival, despite multimodal treatment [3]. Surgery is the main treatment and consists of total abdominal hysterectomy. A randomised trial consisting of 224 patients diagnosed with uterine sarcomas stage I and II showed that adjuvant radiotherapy improves locoregional control. The role of adjuvant chemotherapy is still unclear [1]. Unfortunately, roughly 50% of patients with organ-confined disease will u
