A 63-year-old postmenopausal woman was referred for a mass on MRI: a well-defined 13 cm hyperechoic mass with high fat content. Exploratory laparotomy revealed normal ovaries and an enlarged uterus; hysterectomy was performed. Histological examination found uterine lipoleiomyoma, a rare benign type of uterine myoma.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions are growing in prevalence. Ultrasound (US) is increasingly used for managing MSK conditions due to its low cost and ability to provide real-time image guidance during therapeutic interventions. As MSK US becomes more widespread, familiarity and comfort with US-guided interventions will become increasingly important. This article focuses on general concepts regarding therapeutic US-guided injections of corticosteroids and platelet-rich plasma and highlights several of the US-guided procedures commonly performed, involving the pelvis and lower extremity.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric pelvic fractures are rare injuries. Typically they are associated with high-energy trauma, which often leads to life-threatening injuries of other organs. Anatomical differences (e.g., greater elasticity, different stages of maturation, remodeling) account for the different fracture mechanisms, fracture management, and outcome in children. Carcinosarcoma, a malignant tumor with biphasic morphology is uncommon in the renal pelvis. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) plays an important role in establishing the diagnosis and differentiating it from other biphasic malignant tumors. We present a rare case of immunohistologically confirmed carcinosarcoma of renal pelvis in a 42-year old female, which possibly developed on a background of multicentric squamous cell carcinoma arising as a consequence of chronic irritation caused by calculi.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are well recognized in the pleura, but their occurrence at other sites has only become appreciated in recent years, as a consequence of which extrapleural examples often go unrecognized and misdiagnosed. Because of their rarity, overall experience concerning this tumor has not been significant and reports detailing radiological findings are few. We herein report an unusual case of a large retroperitoneal pelvic SFT with features of high vascularity negating successful surgical resection.
