There are limited data on the neurocognitive correlates of childhood anxiety disorders. The objective of this study was to examine whether visual and verbal memory deficits of nonemotional stimuli are (1) a shared feature of three common childhood anxiety disorders (social phobia, separation anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder) or whether these deficits are restricted to specific anxiety disorders, and (2) present in offspring who possess at least one of the following established risk factors for anxiety disorders, parental history of panic disorder (PD), or major depressive dis

College students recovering from mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) often experience a constellation of symptoms including cognitive and emotional difficulties. While these symptoms may interfere with academic performance, few students seek supportive services. Assessment of MTBI symptoms may be important to help identify students with symptoms that may interfere with academic performance and assist them in obtaining appropriate treatment and support services. The purpose of this study was to evaluate cognitive performance of college students with a history of MTBI on the Repeatable Battery fo

A variety of cognitive and attentional factors are hypothesised to be associated with post-event rumination, a key construct that has been proposed to contribute to the maintenance of social anxiety disorder (SAD). The present study aimed to explore factors contributing to post-event rumination following delivery of a speech in a clinical population. 121 participants with SAD completed measures of trait social anxiety a week before they undertook a speech task. After the speech, participants answered several questionnaires assessing their state anxiety, self-evaluation of performance, perceive

College students often face high stress and mental health challenges that impact their academic performance and well-being. Time spent in green space (TSIGS) may reduce depressive symptoms, alleviate anxiety, and enhance cognitive function. However, few studies investigate how nature directly impacts these factors among undergraduates. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the associations between TSIGS and anxiety, depression, and academic achievement among undergraduates at a Southeastern US university. This study surveyed undergraduate students (n=291), about anxiety, depression, academ

INTRODUCTION: This study explored inhibitory control in spider phobic (SP) and healthy control (HC) individuals using an emotional antisaccade task. Attentional control theory (ACT) suggests anxiety related deficits in inhibitory control, yet studies on antisaccade performance in anxiety disordered patients are sparse. This study addressed this research gap and additionally aimed to explore putative associations of antisaccade performance with multimodal measures of fear of spiders.
METHODS: A sample of 76 participants (41 SP, 35 HC) completed an antisaccade task, employing schematic pictures

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: This pilot study explored the combined impact of arousal reappraisal intervention and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) targeting the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (PFC) on state anxiety, challenge and threat appraisals, and performance under high pressure in esport contexts. Arousal reappraisal has previously been shown to enable individuals to interpret physiological arousal more constructively, while tDCS has demonstrated potential to increase the efficacy of psychological interventions.
DESIGN: A fully repeated measures study design was employ

BACKGROUND: This study examines the psychophysiological differences between virtual reality (VR) and real archery. It explores whether VR archery induces heart rate (HR), heart rate variability (HRV), and breathing rates similar to those experienced in real archery. Additionally, the study assesses differences in perceived anxiety, difficulty, confidence, rate of perceived exertion (RPE), and shooting performance between the two modalities, providing insights into the efficacy of VR as a training tool for archery.
METHODS: Twenty-two (women: 8) individuals aged 20-24 participated in the study

Benzodiazepines are relatively safe compounds. They do, however, have an adverse effect on psychomotor and cognitive functions. A variety of behavioural and mood disturbances have been reported, including increased hostility, depression, antisocial behaviour, paranoid ideation, and suicidal tendencies. Benzodiazepines may produce pharmacological dependence in therapeutic dosage. The typical pattern of a drug dependence syndrome is rare. Dependence is primarily manifested by an abstinence syndrome occurring after the dose of the drug is reduced or treatment is stopped. The problems of distingui

The daytime performance efficiency of 12 elderly subjects of average age 81.5 years (range 75-96 years) was examined in a cross-over study following lormetazepam 1 mg, nitrazepam 5 mg, and placebo capsules nightly for 7 nights. Performance was assessed on the Gibson spiral maze, and a reciprocal tapping task. In both tasks the speed and the accuracy of performance were independently measured. Performance testing sessions were conducted on the morning following the first, and the morning following the seventh dose of each of the three experimental treatments. Performance on the Gibson spiral ma

Eight healthy men received an oral dose of 0.25 mg/kg diazepam followed 40 min later by an intravenous infusion of 100 ml physiological sodium chloride solution, with or without 4.4 mg/kg theophylline. Psychomotor function was assessed after each blood sampling up to 5 h post-infusion. Thirty min after diazepam psychomotor performance measured by Card Sorting test and Digit Symbol Substitution test was impaired and subjects felt sleepy and could think less clearly (two factors of the Clyde Mood Scale). Theophylline antagonized the diazepam-induced impairment statistically significantly for up

OBJECTIVES: We explored the relationship between mental health and type 2 diabetes among women in New Delhi, India, in 2011.
METHODS: We recruited a convenience sample of 184 diabetic women from 10 public and private clinics. They completed a finger-stick blood test and a questionnaire assessing demographic characteristics, depression and anxiety symptoms, and diabetes-related disabilities restricting their performance of daily tasks. A subsample of 30 women participated in follow-up qualitative interviews at their homes.
RESULTS: More than one quarter of our sample of diabetic women reporte

Developmental prosopagnosia (DP) is a condition that indicates the inability to recognize individuals by their faces from birth, without any history of brain damage. The assessment of face recognition ability and diagnosis of DP involve the use of face tests such as the Cambridge Face Memory Test (CFMT) and the Cambridge Face Perception Test, along with self-reported measures like the 20-Item Prosopagnosia Index (PI20). Face recognition accuracy is affected by anxiety. However, previous studies on the relationship between face recognition ability and anxiety have not used the PI20 measure. Thi

Mathematics achievement can be influenced by negative emotions and expectations related to numerical tasks. Individuals with high mathematics anxiety often show poorer numerical performance. This study investigated the neural mechanisms underlying different levels of numerical processing associated with mathematics anxiety using number line estimation and arithmetic verification tasks during fMRI. Participants were classified into high (n = 22, age = 23.09 ± 2.22) and low (n = 24, age = 22.67 ± 3.29) mathematics anxiety groups based on detailed screening prior to scanning. Trait and test anxie

UNLABELLED: Motion-induced anxiety and agoraphobia are more frequent symptoms in patients with vestibular migraine than migraine without vertigo. The neuropeptide calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a therapeutic target for migraine and vestibular migraine, but the link between motion hypersensitivity, anxiety, and CGRP is relatively unexplored, especially in preclinical mouse models. To further examine this link, we tested the effects of systemic CGRP and off-vertical axis rotation (OVAR) on elevated plus maze (EPM) and rotarod performance in male and female C57BL/6J mice. Rotarod abili

UNLABELLED: Every year in Poland there are approximately 1200 new cases of malignant tumours in children and adolescents. Leukaemia, CNS tumours, and lymphomas are the most frequently diagnosed cancers. Coping with a child's illness is challenging, which is why many parents suffer from anxiety, depression disorders, and even PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). The aim of this study is to assess the anxiety and depression levels of carers of children with cancer.
METHOD: The study participants were 101 carers of children suffering from cancer. The study was conducted using standardized ques
