Molecular Mechanism Study on Effect of Biodegradable Amino Acid Ester-Substituted Polyphosphazenes in Stimulating Osteogenic Differentiation.

Amino acid ester substituted polyphosphazenes are osteoactive benefiting from their phosphorus-containing chemical structure, which highlights interests in bone tissue engineering. To correlate their chemical structures with cell activities, in this study, poly[(ethyl alanato)0.3 (ethyl glycinato)0.7 phosphazene] (PAGP) and poly[(ethyl phenylalanato)0.3 (ethyl glycinato)0.7 phosphazene] (PPGP) are synthesized to carry out studies on cell osteogenic differentiation. In the non-contact culture manner, bone mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs) are cultured in transwell chambers containing PAGP or PP

Metabolite shift in Medicago truncatula occurs in phosphorus deprivation.

Symbiotic nitrogen (N) fixation entails successful interaction between legume hosts and rhizobia that occur in specialized organs called nodules. N-fixing legumes have a higher demand for phosphorus (P) than legumes grown on mineral N. Medicago truncatula is an important model plant for characterization of effects of P deficiency at the molecular level. Hence, a study was carried out to address the alteration in metabolite levels of M. truncatula grown aeroponically and subjected to 4 weeks of P stress. First, GC-MS-based untargeted metabolomics initially revealed changes in the metabolic prof

Biochemical studies on the cell wall lipopolysaccharides (O-antigens) of Vibrio cholerae 569 B (Inaba) and El-tor (Inaba).

Lipopolysaccharides were isolated from the cell walls of Vibrio cholerae 569 B (Inaba) and El-tor (Inaba). Chemical analysis revealed the presence of glucose, fructose, mannose, heptose, rhamnose, ethanolamine, fatty acids and glucosamine. The lipopolysaccharides do not contain 2-keto-3-deoxyoctonate, the typical linking sugar of polysaccharide and lipid moieties of enterobacterial lipopolysaccharides. Galactose, a typical core polysaccharide component of many gram-negative bacteria was also absent from lipopolysaccharides of these organisms. By hydrolysis in 1% acetic acid, the lipopolysaccha

The acid-base effects of free water removal from and addition to oxygenated and deoxygenated whole blood: an in vitro model of contraction alkalosis and dilutional acidosis.

This study was conducted to describe the acid-base effects of hydration and dehydration of oxygenated and deoxygenated whole blood. Whole blood samples from goats were equilibrated in a tonometer to a partial pressure of carbon dioxide of 40 mm Hg and oxygen (PO₂) of 100 mm Hg or 30 mm Hg. Contraction alkalosis was achieved by evaporating blood samples to 80% of the original volume. Dilutional acidosis was achieved by increasing the blood sample volume by 20% by addition of sterile water. Acid-base, electrolyte, hemoglobin, lactate, albumin, and phosphorus concentrations were measured at basel

The Simplest Phosphinylperoxy Radical and Its Isomers in the Photochemical Phosphorus-Hydrogen-Oxygen Network.

The oxidation of phosphine (PH3) plays an important role in the photochemical phosphorus-hydrogen-oxygen network of the Earth's atmosphere. The phosphinyl radical (•PH2) is a key intermediate in the photochemistry of PH3, and its reactions with O2 yield phosphorus oxyacids as stable reservoirs via the intermediacy of yet elusive radicals. Herein, we report the identification of the simplest phosphinylperoxy radical H2POO• in gas phase reaction between •PH2 and O2. The characterization of H2POO• with matrix-isolation IR and UV-vis spectroscopy is supported by D- and 18O-isotope labeling experim

Cationic Phosphorus Compounds Based on a Bis(1-piperidinyl)-Substituted Carbodiphosphorane: Syntheses, Structures, and Csp3 -H Activation.

The use of the bis(1-piperidinyl)-substituted carbodiphosphorane (Ph2(Pip)P)2C (1) as an NCN ligand for the stabilization of phosphorus cations was studied. A simple ligand for halide exchange allowed the synthesis and isolation of a series of phosphorus monocations of the type [1-PR2]+ (with R = Cl, Br, I, CyCl, Ph). These cations exhibit characteristic NMR and structural properties which nicely correlate with the charge at the central phosphorus atom and the interaction between the ligand and the PR2 moiety. Halide abstraction from the monocations does not result in isolable dicationic compo

Effects of Organic Compounds on Dissolution of the Phosphate Minerals Chlorapatite, Whitlockite, Merrillite, and Fluorapatite: Implications for Interpreting Past Signatures of Organic Compounds in Rocks, Soils and Sediments.

Phosphate is an essential nutrient for life on Earth, present in adenosine triphosphate (ATP), deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA), and phospholipid membranes. Phosphorus does not have a significant volatile phase, and its release from minerals is therefore critical to its bioavailability. Organic ligands can enhance phosphate release from minerals relative to release in inorganic solutions, and phosphorus depletion in paleosols has consequently been used as a signature of the presence of ligands secreted by terrestrial organisms on early Earth. We performed batch dissolution e

Dissolution of particulate phosphorus in pig slurry through biological acidification: A critical step for maximum phosphorus recovery as struvite.

Recycling phosphorus as struvite from pig slurry requires an acidification step to dissolve the inorganic solids containing most of the phosphorus. This study focused on the biological acidification of several pig slurries using sucrose as a model organic co-substrate. Lactic acid fermentation occurred systematically, dissolving 60-90% of TP (total phosphorus) and T-Mg (total magnesium) at pH 6 or lower. Optimal pH range for maximum P dissolution aimed at struvite recovery was 5.5-6. A simple model was developed correlating pH, sucrose and buffer capacity to optimize P dissolution and future r

Promoting effects of ferric ions on Microcystis aeruginosa growth and arsenate accumulation and reduction at different phosphorus environments.

The effects of different dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP) associated with distinct iron conditions (iron deficient (dFe), ferric ions (Fe3+), and colloidal iron (CFe)) on algal growth and arsenate (As(V)) metabolism were systematically evaluated and compared in Microcystis aeruginosa. Two chemical forms of DOP (D-glucose-6-phosphate (GP) and phytic acid (PA)), as well as dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP), were employed as distinct phosphorus environments. The results revealed that As(V) metabolism of M. aeruginosa was more influenced by different phosphorus forms than by different iron co

Calcium Chloride Activation of Acid-Washed Sewage Sludge Ash: Hydration Mechanism and Performance as a Supplementary Cementitious Material.

Due to the fact that municipal sludge incineration generates a large amount of toxic sewage sludge ash (SSA), cement solidification is becoming an efficient harmless treatment method. However, the large amount of phosphorus in sludge ash can delay the setting time of cement pastes and lead to a decrease in its later strength. Moreover, as an important non-renewable resource, the recycling and utilization of phosphorus is also a current research hotspot. To this end, this paper proposes to remove phosphorus from incinerated sewage sludge ash (ISSA) by the acid washing process, and, in response

Prospects for Using Phosphate-Solubilizing Microorganisms as Natural Fertilizers in Agriculture.

Phosphates are known to be essential for plant growth and development, with phosphorus compounds being involved in various physiological and biochemical reactions. Phosphates are known as one of the most important factors limiting crop yields. The problem of phosphorus deficiency in the soil has traditionally been solved by applying phosphate fertilizers. However, chemical phosphate fertilizers are considered ineffective compared to the organic fertilizers manure and compost. Therefore, increasing the bioavailability of phosphates for plants is one of the primary goals of sustainable agricultu

Copper-Catalyzed Aerobic Oxidative/Decarboxylative Phosphorylation of Aryl Acrylic Acids with P(III)-Nucleophiles.

A copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative/decarboxylative phosphorylation of aryl acrylic acids with P(III)-nucleophiles via the Michaelis-Arbuzov rearrangement for the synthesis of β-ketophosphine oxides, β-ketophosphinates, and β-ketophosphonates is reported. The present reaction could be conducted effectively without the use of a ligand and a base. Various kinds of aryl acrylic acids and P(III)-nucleophiles are tolerated in the transformation, generating the desired β-keto-organophosphorus compounds as a valuable class of phosphorus-containing intermediates with good to excellent yields. In addi

Chiral Amplification of Phosphoramidates of Amines and Amino Acids in Water.

The origin of biomolecular homochirality continues to be one of the most fascinating aspects of prebiotic chemistry. Various amplification strategies for chiral compounds to enhance a small chiral preference have been reported, but none of these involves phosphorylation, one of nature's essential chemical reactions. Here we present a simple and robust concept of phosphorylation-based chiral amplification of amines and amino acids in water. By exploiting the difference in solubility of a racemic phosphoramidate and its enantiopure form, we achieved enantioenrichment in solution. Starting with n

Synthesis of 2-Phosphorus-Substituted Indoles via Ring Expansion of Benzocyclobutenone Oxime Sulfonates.

A method for the synthesis of 2-phosphorus-substituted indoles via ring expansion of benzocyclobutenone oxime sulfonates, which were prepared via the [2 + 2] cycloaddition of benzynes and ketene acetals, and subsequent oximization and sulfonylation was developed. The reaction occurs by addition of the phosphate anion or phosphine oxide anion to the C═N bond of oxime sulfonates, followed by ring expansion to provide 2-phosphorus-substituted indoles. This method was applicable to the synthesis of 2-phosphorus-substituted indoles with a wide variety of substitution patterns on the benzene ring an

Set-Regulation Performance of High-Temperature Hydration in Silicate/Aluminate Cements by Phosphorus-Doped Carbon Dot Polymers.

To address the challenges of uncontrolled high-temperature hydration and strength retrogression of cement slurries in the development of ultradeep oil/gas and geothermal resources, this study proposes a phosphorus-doped carbon dot polymer. Phosphorus-doped carbon dots (CDP) were synthesized using citric acid, urea, and phosphoric acid as precursors. Subsequently, a retarder (CDP@P) featuring a multilevel interfacial architecture of "network-like encapsulation plus carbon dot anchoring" was constructed via silane coupling agent grafting and copolymerization with multicarboxyl monomers. Antigens of Streptococcus mutans. I. Characterization of a serotype-specific determinant from Streptococcus mutans.

A membrane-associated glycerol teichoic acid antigen has been isolated from Streptococcus mutans AHT and a similar antigen has been demonstrated to be present in each of the other Bratthall serotype a organisms studied. Trichloroacetic acid-extracted material was resolved into two phosphorus-containing antigenic fractions (B and C) by agarose chromatography. Fraction B was preliminarily identified as a phospholipid moiety with a glycerol-to-phosphorus ratio of 2:1, and fraction C showed a ratio of 1:1 indicative of a glycerol teichoic acid. This latter fraction also was associated with glucose
